Description:
Senior/Principal:
Performs development and/or follow of programs or
projects to ensure compliance with operational, design,
regulatory, and Program requirements. Examples include
performing work document reviews, engineering
evaluations, or analysis to support assigned tasks.
Provides subject matter expertise in regulated areas
such as hazardous material transportation,
environmental, safety, and health, waste management, and
radiological controls, to personnel to support safe and
compliant execution of work activities. Work may include
providing interface, independent oversight, and
assessment of KAPL, subcontractor, and vendor facility
operations, material evaluations, design reviews,
development of engineering methods, and facility
operations. Preparation and maintenance of records and
reports to meet regulatory and Program requirements,
evaluate and assess site performance, perform
surveillances, clarify and implement regulatory
requirements, prepare, review and approve technical work
procedures and identify improvements to existing
processes. May lead or provide support for inspections
and interface with outside regulatory agencies.
Qualifications that must be maintained for this position
include Advanced DOT Radioactive Materials Shipper
Certification, Advanced DOT Hazardous Waste Shipper
Certification, Advanced DOT Mixed Waste Shipper
Certification, and International Air Transport
Association: Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air Shipper
Certification. Periodic travel within the U.S. is
required to maintain DOT qualifications and to interface
with other Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program sites. The
successful applicant will eventually be able to
interpret the various regulated areas and to provide
justification for such interpretations that will
withstand regulatory challenges. The position offers
valuable career building experience through interface
with high levels of management, regulatory agencies,
disposal and processing facilities, and the Naval
Nuclear Propulsion Program. It also offers the
opportunity to gain familiarity with the interpretation
and application of regulatory requirements (e.g. EPA,
DOT, NRC, DOE, etc).
Requirements:
Senior:
BS degree in technical or science related field from an
accredited college or university and a minimum of six
years of relevant experience; or
MS degree in technical or science related field from an
accredited college or university and a minimum of four
years of relevant experience.
Principal:
BS degree in technical or science related field from an
accredited college or university and a minimum of nine
years of relevant experience; or
MS degree in technical or science related field from an
accredited college or university and a minimum of seven
years of relevant experience.
