Description
Please note, this is a defined term position ending in March of 2013. Defined term employees are eligible for most benefits including healthcare, paid vacation, holidays and 401K.
Set-up and operate plastic extrusion equipment to manufacture miniature, precision medical tubing to established quality standards in order to meet departmental production demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Sets-up all equipment modules required for manufacturing.
- Gathers proper tooling and assembles to the appropriate machine for manufacturing.
- Ensures proper resins are available, prepared and staged properly.
- Performs start-up and operations on the extrusion equipment according to approved parameters.
- Adjusts processing parameters as allowed within the approved range(s) in order to maintain approved specification of the prod.
- Analyzes machine output and determines appropriate changes to tooling sizes to meet desired results/specifications.
- Inspects product according to current methods and standards using approved equipment.
- Collects and packages product according to approved standards and delivers to the next station.
- Completes and submits all required paperwork or electronic data entry.
- Purges, shuts down, cleans equipment according to approved methods and removes tooling in preparation for the next work order.
- Assists with engineering projects, as needed.
- Utilizes equipment for tasks such as computer controlled processes.
- Identifies and provides recommendations for improvements.
- Identifies machine issues of low to medium complexity, troubleshoots and escalates to appropriate individuals.
- May mentor other technicians.
- Uses computer applications such as MS Office and PDM.
Quality System Requirements
In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.

- Assures that appropriate resources (personnel, tools, etc.) are maintained in order to assure Quality System compliance and adherence to the BSC Quality Policy.
- Establishes and promotes a work environment that supports the Quality Policy and Quality System.Position Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Four years minimum experience recommended in a plastic extrusion environment (preferred:
medical device tubing experience).
- Demonstrated organizational and teamwork skills.
- Good manual dexterity and solid mechanical aptitude are required.
- Basic math and computer skills required.
- Solid written, verbal and technical communication skills.
- Knowledge of conceptual basics, extrusion processes and automated feedback loops.
- Requires minimal supervision.
