Job Summary

The UCSF Faculty Practice Revenue Management Operations (FPRMO) team is the entity which oversees professional fee charge capture, coding, and ensures that claims are sent out to payors with as few errors as possible so that our claims are paid correctly and in a timely manner. The FPRMO currently oversees this process for many of the UCSF Health Departments with charges exceeding $1 billion per year, approaching $1.5 billion.

The Analyst is a key member of the FPRMO s revenue management unit. With direction and supervision by the Revenue Manager, the Analyst is responsible for coding claims, ensuring that charges are free of billing errors, and that claims submitted are compliant with all internal, governmental and payor-specific rules. In addition to the primary role of coding and clearing coding-related system edits, other duties that may be assigned include working with providers to correct documentation deficiencies, charge entry into APeX (UCSF s electronic medical record), auditing to ensure that charges are correctly triggered for billing, and other duties as assigned.

The analyst must be knowledgeable about clinical workflow operations that are relevant to billing operations and work closely with practice providers and other clinical operations staff on integrating and proactively resolving issues that may delay or result in billing processing errors. To that end, analysts must have strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to articulately present findings and issues, and develop solutions that meet both clinical operating and billing needs. Analysts are expected to respond to inquiries from providers, Departments, and other team members in a clear and timely manner.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.

Required Qualifications

* Minimum three months to one year of related work experience in Profee billing and in healthcare setting

* Must be a Certified Professional Coder or hold similar coding certification

* Strong and demonstrated computer skills in a Windows based environment (MS Windows operating system, MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

* Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills; as demonstrated in team based experience and strong verbal communication skills; experience communicating/facilitating discussions with a variety of colleagues: physicians, nursing and other clinical providers, clinical administrative managers and staff.

* Strong demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

* Strong demonstrated analytical skills in assessing processes as well as review and analysis of data and develop recommendations from these analyses

* Ability to work independently, exercise appropriate judgment, and function effectively as a member of the billing unit team

* Ability to work with tact and diplomacy, and with the professional integrity required in working with sensitive and confidential clinical information

* Ability to prioritize workload and meet productivity and accuracy targets and meet timelines

* Must complete training and required UCSF APeX certification in designated modules for billing unit analysts as well as other UCSF training requirements as determined by the Department of Pediatrics

* Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills

* The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required

Preferred Qualifications

* Prior experience with EPIC electronic medical record system or with other EHR systems

* BA degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent training/experience

* Demonstrated experience in developing written materials for dissemination
