Job Description
This position is located in our Chicago, Illinois office & mainly supports the Financial Advisory Services (“FAS”) practice. The FAS practice applies accounting, financial, economic & data analysis expertise & experience to assist our clients address their critical issues. This position will report to more senior staff & Managing Directors. Examples of our services include:
•Litigation Support & Valuation
oFinancial damage analysis & lost profits determination
oValuations of businesses, securities, real estate, machinery & equipment, intellectual property & other intangible assets
oAssessing work performed by independent auditors
oExpert reports & testimony
•Middle Market Restructuring
oAssisting debtors with in-court or out-of-court restructuring
oWorking with creditors to understand the situation, negotiate their position & maximize value
oDue diligence related to business acquisitions, mergers & integrations, liquidations & joint ventures
•Corporate Investigation
oFinancial investigations including those involving financial statement fraud, asset misappropriation & corruption
oAssessments of complex financial transactions for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (“GAAP”) & international financial reporting standards (“IFRS”)
oReporting & compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”) & federal securities laws
Responsibilities
•Reviewing & summarizing materials produced in litigation matters such as depositions & financial statements.
•Researching & analyzing factors affecting litigation damages or valuation
•Applying statistical analysis
•Organizing documents & work papers, including preparing supporting materials for litigation & valuation reports
•Creating & managing large data sets
•Developing & assessing projections & forecasts
•Creating financial models incorporating discounted cash flow (DCF) theory
•Analyzing financial transactions for possible fraud
•Analyzing financial transactions for compliance with GAAP or IFRS
•Evaluating compliance with rules & regulations of the FCPA, Sarbanes-Oxley, & the federal securities laws
•Reviewing audit working papers for compliance with professional standards
•Communicating with clients & colleagues in written & oral form
•Drafting written reports
•Preparing presentation materials
•Performing quality control reviews over work product
•Training other professional staff
Minimum Qualifications
•A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or mathematics
•A minimum of two years experience working for an accounting firm conducting independent financial statement audits or working in a professional services firm providing dispute, litigation &/or investigative services. The ideal candidate will have worked in a “Big Four” environment & have performed the foregoing services for a publicly traded company
•Certification as a Certified Public Accountant is required
•Additional certification as a Certified Fraud Examiner, Chartered Financial Analyst or Certified Valuation Analyst is a plus
•Strong technical accounting knowledge & the ability to resolve complex accounting problems
•Well-developed analytical abilities
•Ability to prepare or ability to learn to prepare financial models & cash flow analyses
•A professional demeanor with advanced communication & presentation skills
•Strong project management skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks, self-prioritize tasks & meet deadlines
•Ability to work well with others in a team environment, as well as independently with an entrepreneurial attitude
•Ability & willingness to travel domestically & internationally, sometimes on short notice & for extended periods of time
•Ability & willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule in order to meet client needs
•Ability to work well under pressure
•Desire & interest to meet new people & network socially
•A positive & energetic attitude
•Proficient in MS Excel, Access, Word & PP
•Foreign language skills a plus
