JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Financial Counselor, PFS is responsible to implement, oversee, track and monitor HUMC policies for cash collection and financial clearance throughout the Medical Center. This is done through audit and counseling of patients in accordance with HUMC revenue cycle policies and procedures. 1. Responsible to identify patients who mandate financial counseling and to execute financial agreements in accordance with HUMC policies. Responsible to track and audit agreements for compliance. 2. Creates and presents reports to clinical administration and Finance office management on productivity and patient compliance. 3. Audits accuracy of demographic and insurance information to ensure maximum reimbursement in accordance with HUMC collection policy. 4. In charge of implementing, reviewing, determining and subsequently calculating patient eligibility for upfront discount and/or compassionate discount in compliance and as per HUMC policies. 5. Complies with all procedural workflows and departmental policies and procedures as identified. 6. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.). 7. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies. Working Conditions: Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 lbs. and stands a minimum of 1.5 hours a day. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. BA/BS degree required. 2. Minimum two years healthcare experience in a business office setting. 3. Proven analytical and interpersonal skills. 4. Proficient PC skill. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 1. Hospital revenue cycle experience. 2. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
