JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY 40 hours week, day shifts
The Patient Financial Counselor serves as primary contact for patients requiring assistance with various financial related issues. The Financial Counselor will utilize a variety of available resources and assess and work toward resolution of identified patient fiscal issues. The Financial Counselor is responsible for the evaluation of financial history for both uninsured and underinsured outpatients for the purpose of determining eligibility for government financial assistance programs. The Financial Counselor works collaboratively with Pre-Certification, Nursing Case Management, Patient Accounts, and involved Local, State and Federal Agencies.
Act as liaison between the patients/families and Pre-Certification departments in addressing any billing related inquires and issues.
Accepts and/or arranges payment for copayments, deductibles and outstanding balances.
Assists with discount policy requests.
Counsels and advises patients of available payment options in accordance with Partners Credit and Collection Policy.
Directly interfaces with billing agencies in order to investigate patient reported.
Work to resolve collection disputes with patients and posted payments in the Epic system.
Verify insurance benefits by obtaining demographics and other information as needed to process claims
Inform involved department personnel of issues that may impact payment of services provided and contribute problem solving efforts to resolve issues.
Contacts patient, service area and/or physicians offices regarding issues about insurance coverage
Assist in registration process where necessary, adhering to all registration policies and procedures.
Works on special projects and other duties as required.
Responsible for screening patients for health insurance coverage according to Affordable Care Act regulations. As Certified Application Counselor, assist patients in submitting applications with required documentation for program eligibility.
Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
Staff adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards
Maintains Average Q/C Score of 3 or greater
Familiarity with local, state and federal agencies to include and not limited to Social Security Administration, Center for Health Information and Analysis, Department of Homeland Security, Disability Evaluation Services, Massachusetts Health Connector and Department of Transitional Assistance

BA/BS preferred or equivalent related experience
Prior experience with medical billing preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology helpful
Familiarity with EPIC, Microsoft Office and Excel databases 5 years experience in Patient Financial Services or related area.
Demonstrated customer service abilities
Proficiency in oral and written communication
Adeptness in assessing and solving problems, excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize
Knowledge of revenue cycle particularly with regard to insurance reimbursement and managed care referral/authorization requirements
Ability to effectively interact with various levels of the organization
Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
