Summary

The Time Warner Cable News and Local Programming Division is looking for a Freelance Digital Content Writer to join our team of experienced producers. The successful candidate will work with a team of creative, energetic and talented staffers to produce editorial content for our NY1 News online, mobile, and social media platforms. Familiarity with Internet publishing tools and strong news writing are required.

Essential Duties

Copy edits news and feature television scripts into print-style articles for online publication, correcting spelling and grammar while maintaining accuracy, clarity, and reporter s personal style.
Prepares original online online stories based on information garnered from the assignment desk, wire services, social media, other news outlets, press releases, NY1 archives, and footage shot in the field.
Handles publication of text, video and images to site using online publishing tools and other computer programs.
Uses editorial judgment to place news stories on site in proper order to create a clear, informative user experience and updates stories as news changes.
Uses social media tools to deliver content to social networks.
During breaking news situations, writes original news stories in AP print style.
Stays attentive to web metrics and adjusts content to optimize the display of the site to viewer interests.
Maintains highest degree of quality and ethical standards in presentation of material.

Production Duties

Operates Adobe CQ5 content management system for publication of stories.
Uses Dalet newsroom management system to access source material.
Encodes video clips for website using newsroom video tools.
Captures still images from video clips for stories.
Uses file transfer program to upload video clips to website.
Uses online tools to manage NY1 social media accounts.
Uses online tools to send out text and e-mail alerts.
Keeps an eye on web traffic as displayed on website metrics monitors.

Requirements

Strong writing, editing and communication skills.
Solid news judgment.
Familiarity with Internet publishing workflow, including experience with a content management system, image editing software, video editing tools and social media platforms.
Ability to work on deadline in an organized fashion.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends, as needed.

Education/Experience

Bachelors Degree, preferably in Journalism/Communication/English or related field.
1+ years of editorial experience producing news, sports, and/or lifestyles content.
