Job Description

The Technical Architect (TA) is a key role in GIS to provide appropriate technology solutions to meet business needs. This role will provide a strategic vision for all technology platforms, roadmaps, governance, and detailed architecture and design in collaboration with other GIS teams. This role requires strong enterprise systems and technology knowledge, leadership, and negotiations skills to convince a large audience to buy into the strategic vision and to understand the implications and impacts of architecture choices and its results.
The Technology Architect - Network will be responsible for our global network vision and for defining infrastructure network technology practices. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who plans, researches, evaluates, designs, and develops network systems by applying engineering, hardware and software design theories and principles to meet business requirements. The architect will provide networking expertise to resolve complex cross-functional network problems. This position is also responsible for mentoring, coaching and developing technical personnel into future leaders.
The Technical Architect - Network interacts with the GIS team members, business partners, core vendors, and industry experts to gather business/technology requirements, provide a strategic, big picture views, and develop technology strategies relevant and realistic for the organization. This role is instrumental in communicating the vision, strategies, and roadmaps to the GIS organization and to the broader business community and gain acceptance and adoption of these technoloy solutions. They will contribute to the organization, enabling structured and balanced pursuit of innovation, operational stability, platform scalability and supportability to technical standards and solutions for a future state that will add significant value in cost savings, quality, and effort during execution of these technical solutions. In addition, this role will be expected to contribute to the establishment of effective and efficient transformation programs to implement effective technical architecture, provide governance, and develop/execute the strategic architecture roadmap based on best demonstrated practices.
Essential Functions:

- Create and maintain current state, future state, and strategic roadmaps supporting business requirements, cost, and sustainability drivers for a global network, covering all relevant network technologies, e.g. WAN, LAN, INTERNET, INTRANET, EXTRANET, TCP/IP, VOICE, DATA, VIDEO
- Lead the identification and analysis of enterprise business drivers to derive technical architecture value; analyzing industry, technology and market trends to determine their potential impacts on the enterprise
- Analyze the current global network environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement
- Work collaboratively with other GIS peers to ensure network solutions meet or exceed the business expectations
- Maintain and communicate detailed technical roadmaps and standards, clearly articulating declining, core, specialized and emerging technologies supporting aligning with defined strategies
- Execute the defined governance model for Enterprise Architecture and its integration with other GIS and business processes
- Evaluate projects through architecture reviews process, evaluating requirements, researching solutions and presenting architecture and design decisions to the project team, GIS and Business Leadership for approriate decisions
- Research new/leading technologies and solutions that enable new functionality and position the organization on a technical path that meets future needs. This research will not be limited to GIS only but could provide input and recommendations to other business functions, or in some cases external customers
- Serves as an internal consultant to other GIS groups when needed Required Skills
-5+years developing networkarchitecture on a global scale and 7+ years engineering networks on a global basis
-Knowledge and experience with architecting and deploying global technologies such as messaging and directory services, servers, storage and networks (WAN/LAN), Hardware platforms (high performance servers, virtualization), desktop technologies, mobile devices, Storage and data management
-Knowledge of IS systems and process analysis tools is preferred
-Knowledge of Process excellence (Six Sigma, LEAN, Design Excellence) is preferred
-Experience managing and leveraging key industry consultants, such as Gartner, Forrester, CEB
-Management experience in global, distributed information services organizations a plus.
-Professional certification(s) in EA and/or project management preferred.
-Experience in working in an outsourced infrastructure setting a plus Required Experience
- 15+ years' experience in information systems, preferably in an technical architecture/engineering role for the medical device industry
- Technical Certifications such as CISCO, Microsoft, etc are required
