A high-growth pharmaceutical company is expanding and has a created a new position in Business Development and Strategic Planning for their Generic and Biosimilars franchise. This highly profitable, 20 year old drug company has doubled in revenue and number of employees in the past five years, and is moving into new therapeutic areas with their branded and generic product lines. If you are looking for a leadership role in a dynamic, emerging organization, this could be the opportunity for you. They have been averaging five new product introductions each year since 2003 and are expanding aggressively into new dosage and administration forms. They now need to add a BD professional with a strong strategic background to help take them to the next level.


Reporting to the VP of Business Development, the Associate Director of BD will be responsible for portfolio management and strategic planning for generic / multi-source drugs across a range of therapeutic areas and dosage forms. This is a high-profile assignment where you will assess in-licensing and acquisition opportunities and make recommendations to senior management about long term positioning in the generic segment. You will conduct market research, develop financial models, and represent the organization with supply chain and licensing partners. You will also negotiate term sheets and close deals, and manage external alliances after they are established.

With greater than 20% annual growth forecasted in the generic market, one of the key duties will be to evaluate partnering opportunities in specialized segments including topicals and biosimilars. The focus of the role will be on structuring in-licensing deals for Gx products, but there will also be occasional work on mergers and acquisitions as the organization continues to grow. The Associate Director will determine how best to serve pharmaceutical wholesalers, chain drug stores, and other customers in the distribution channel. You will provide input on market considerations faced by managed care and other payers, as well as drug safety and other clinical considerations. Other duties include pricing, budgeting, competitive intelligence, and creating distribution plans.

In addition to negotiating and closing deals, you will work closely with counterparts in Sales, Regulatory, Marketing, Manufacturing and Legal to develop and implement the long-term strategic plan for the generic product line. The growth of the company and high-profile nature of the position means there are significant opportunities for career development and advancement, including opportunities in both branded and generic Marketing, Business Development, and Medical Affairs. Overnight domestic and international travel for this assignment is approximately 30%.


The successful candidate will have:

* 7+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry with at least 5 years in a Business Development role

* 3+ years of BD experience working with generic or branded-generic products

* A Deal Sheet that outlines transactional and negotiating experience in the generic space

* A Bachelor's degree or better; an MBA is preferred

* Functional knowledge of the clinical aspects of the pharmaceutical industry, supply chain, dispensing requirements and drug distribution channels

The compensation plan includes an extremely competitive base salary, an incentive-plan bonus, and stock. The job will be based either in northern New Jersey or the SF Bay area; financial assistance will be provided for relocation support.
