Job Description
Responsibilities: A new full time opportunity is now available for the Henry Ford Medical Group at our New Center One Medical Center location at 3031 West Grand Blvd in downtown Detroit. The center is located next to the Fisher Building. Position: Full time 40 hours Shift: Weekdays 8 am to 5 pm. Benefits: Full time benefits This position requires a Masters Degree in genetic counseling and certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics or the American Board of Genetic Counselors. GENERAL POSITION OVERVIEW: Elicits patient history, provides counseling and follow-up care for the following patient groups: prenatal, pediatric, adult cancer, general genetics, adult and pediatric neurogenetics. Prepares cases and presents at interdisciplinary conferences. Formulates differential diagnosis, coordinates related testing, and documents all patient visits. Counsels patients on all aspects of the diagnosis. Consults on inpatient cases and acts as liaison with a variety of internal and external sources. Responsible for training and supervision of students and residents, education of professional and lay groups, and participation in departmental research. Credentialed to directly supervise genetic counseling students. Maintains full case load for pediatric, pre-natal and cancer patient populations in busy Genetics clinic, including extensive socialpatient history, dictation and note completion, attendance at tumor board. Search and interpret the medical literature and computerized databases, such as REPROTOX, CancerGene, GeneClinics, OMIM, POSSUM, and formulate initial putative differential diagnoses and caretreatment plans. Teaching responsibilities include orientating new clinic staff members. Coordinate, supervise and instruct genetic counseling students and medical internsresidents. Designs patient educational materials. Assists in the curriculum development for the MD and PhD genetics training programs, participates in newly acquired grants at the state and national level, and assists with expanding Genetics services at our West Bloomfield site. Qualifications EDUCATIONEXPERIENCE: *Requires minimum of a Master of Science degree in genetic counseling from an accredited university graduate program. *Certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics or American Board of Genetic Counselors is required. *Previous experience in Genetics, with counseling, diagnostic, and interpretation experience in the areas of prenatal diagnosis and screening, amniocentesis, teratogen and dysmorphology andor cancer genetics. *Requires sound knowledge of the States genetics network as well as other agencies that relate to the care of patients with genetic diseases.
