Position Description

The Science Division of the Technical Services Support Contract (TSSC) at the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science Center (EROS) near Sioux Falls, SD is recruiting a Geospatial Data Services Developer to support the Earth Observing System (EOS) Science Integration project. This project is affiliated with the NASA Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC).

The ideal candidate will be a creative problem-solver who can respond to evolving development needs in an applied research setting and also has an eagerness to learn and implement new technologies. Job activities pertain to investigating a broad array of emerging geospatial data services development challenges, with focus on developing, integrating, and testing new solutions. The Geospatial Data Services Developer will work both independently and within a team to advance the Land Change Science mission at EROS.

As part of a scrum team comprised of software developers and scientists, the Geospatial Software Developer will primarily design, develop, test, debug, and document code for web services and geospatial web applications. In addition, the Developer will have opportunities to conduct technological research.

Position Requirements

Education: Bachelor s degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science

Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience

Required Skills:
* Excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, and communication skills
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
* Experience with programming languages such as PHP, Python, R
* Knowledge of relational databases such as Postgres, MySQL, or Oracle, as well as with NoSQL data storage (e.g., MongoDB)
* Skill with Javascript, HTTP, and XML

Preferred Skills
* Knowledge of Agile development methodologies
* Experience developing software in support of geospatial data
* Experience developing and Representational State Transfer (REST) services

Candidate must have demonstrated a majority of the required skills in a professional setting. Candidate must be able to demonstrate examples of work should an interview be granted.

The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for facility access and user accounts.
