Job Description

Job Summary and Mission This position is responsible for ensuring that Starbucks Global IT Infrastructure and Infrastructure Services capacity meets current and planned business demand and requirements (budget, performance, availability). The Global Capacity Planning Manager will be involved in operational aspects of Capacity Management (optimizing available capacity and performance) and planning aspects of Capacity Planning (planning and justifying future capacity investments). Summary of Key Responsibilities Capacity Management

Design, produce and analyze capacity reports, incidents, threshold warnings and crossing.
Recommend capacity related changes.
Serve as a technical resource on a wide variety of projects to ensure that infrastructure, including servers, mid-range systems, network, and SAN are utilized and that requirements for new capacity are planned.
Develop capacity management processes and standards.
Provide management information about capacity management quality and operations.
Recommend appropriate IT capacity to meet business needs:
Facilitate capacity reports, review and create recommended changes together with the subject matter experts from Infrastructure and Applications areas. Coordinate immediate and longer term capacity and performance issues resolution.
Implement tools necessary to accomplish tasks and ensure tools work correctly.

Capacity Planning

Understand business demand for IT Infrastructure and Infrastructure Services capacity
Produce and maintain capacity plans that match capacity with demand and provide management with regular reports including historical and projected usage.
Attend leadership meetings to provide input on business and technical requirements for planning purposes. Facilitate periodic capacity planning assessments and provide input to planning initiatives.
Provide accurate IT forecasts for unplanned capacity expenditures; i.e. unused capacity, percent of capacity forecasts that were accurate and number of inaccurate business forecast inputs provided.

Management

Communicate with and influence personnel from a wide range of engineering, analytical and software development specialties.
Accountable to maintain strong relationships with technical teams.

Summary of Experience

Highly technical with hands-on expertise in capacity monitoring and planning methodologies - 8 yearsExperience in the environment management tools (e.g. , Bladelogic, VMware, Omegamon, ITCAM, Tivoli, NETIQ)- 8 years
VMware, SQL, Oracle, and middleware knowledge - 5 years
Windows, UNIX, Linux - Strong knowledge of Web Based infrastructures - 5 years
Experience subject matter teams to provide resolution to immediate and long-term problems - 5 years
Scripting experience desired - 4 years
Experience with network and systems administration - 8 years
Experience mentoring others as a senior technical member of the team - 8 years
