Time Warner Cable News and Local Programming is currently seeking Senior Animator/Graphics Designer. Below please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position
Summary of Role:
This role will be responsible for visually conveying and maintaining the TWCN brand through the creation of still and motion graphics. . The Animator / Graphic Designer can create assets for all facets of design & production for a live, news television network. The
Animator / Graphic Designer should be capable of taking projects through the phases of concept, design, production and delivery. Additionally, the Animator / Graphic Designer will serve many clients which include promos, live remote, live studio, programming
and sales/marketing initiatives not only in their respective market, but across the footprint. This individual should have extensive knowledge working with AfterEffects and serve as a mentor to Graphic Designers. This position should be able to create a project in
AfterEffects using advanced techniques and applicable plug-ins. On occasion, this position can be called upon to assist creating daily news graphics. Creation of motion graphics is also required which include, but are not limited to: Special Storystarters,
Promotions, Show Opens, On-Set Backgrounds, Promotional Elements and Videoboxes. Additional assets created by the Animator / Graphic Designer include Print collateral, both large and small, Set pieces such as duratrans, large backdrops and signage for LIVE
events such as political debates, web elements such as banners and blasts, and Chyron templates.
Essential Job Functions:
Maintain the consistency of the TWCN brand and ensure the entire staff is maintaining the look of the brand
Work collaboratively with graphics producers, news staff, art directors and creative directors
Demonstrate proficiency using networked graphics equipment
Maintain high level of accuracy and attention to detail in order to ensure information conveyed on air is accurate
Remain abreast of current design styles and software
Ensure delivery of all necessary design pieces and that all design deliverables are accurate and tested by the News / Tech departments before air
Ensure that all non-English text used in designs is accurately translated
Supply base files, design elements, movie files, Lyric files etc, to the rest of the footprint as needed using the appropriate file transfer
Assist in training new hires, freelancers and interns
Ensure the staff adheres to design initiatives set forth by CS Management
Be able to take aesthetic photographs of talent, sets, etc, as needed
Graphic Design / Animation Production:
Create base files to be used as reference for future graphics and assets
Generate assets to be used in graphics templates as well as custom graphics as needed
Generate animated assets to be used in promotions
Design and execute elements for specials
Modify automated graphics templates in Chyron
Design maps using Curious Maps
Create Print material including small ads, posters and roadside billboards
Create set design pieces including looping, animated backgrounds for plasma dislplays
Design promotional material such as pins and giveaway items
Design web content such as banners, blasts and animated messages
Other assigned duties as the industry, technology and stations continue to evolve
Knowledge & Experience
Keen eye for aesthetic design / Attention to Detail
3D Animation (a plus if they know Cinema 4D or Maya)
Ability to work under pressure
Adherence to deadlines
Character Generator (Chyron)
Understanding of server-based templates and automation
SMS / Black Storm
Project / responsibility delegation / Multi-tasking / Time Management
Internet knowledge / Search Engines
Remote File Transfer such as Fetch, FTP, Hightail and Hot Sync
Remote access (VNC)
Microsoft Word / Excel

Formal Education & Certification
Minimum college design degree, trade certificate or equivelant
Mandatory minimum of 3 - 5 years television news graphics production
Ability to work long hours, nights, holidays, weekends, during severe weather and breaking news situations
Willingness to work weekends, nights and long hours
Must have a passion for advertising and news in general
Good listener and exceptional communication skills.
Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and tight deadlines.
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
