Job Description
Develop missile dynamics models and apply knowledge of control and estimation theory to devise, simulate, and analyze homing missile guidance and control systems, and assess their impact on overall weapon system performance. Assess the impact of other proposed or modified guidance, navigation, and control algorithms on guided missile performance. Perform concept evaluation and system trades using six-degree-of-freedom simulation tools.
Develop six degree-of-freedom (6DoF) digital simulation models and computer code for various components of existing and next-generation / advanced guided missiles for ballistic missile and cruise missile defense.
Assess the performance of existing missile guidance algorithms (guidance filters, guidance laws); develop, implement and assess potential improvements to these algorithms.
Assess the performance of existing missile flight control system / autopilot concepts; develop, implement and assess potential improvements to these algorithms.
Develop, implement, and assess, in 6DoF simulation, new guidance and flight control algorithms for next-generation guided missiles to meet anticipated performance requirements versus advanced, stressing, threats.
Participate in / propose internal research and development projects that address performance gaps in current or soon-to-be-fielded weapons systems.
Required: BS Degree or equivalent in electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering. Coursework or experience in control systems, state estimation, modeling and simulation of dynamic systems. Experience developing dynamic simulations using high-level languages such as Fortran, C++ or Java. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to function as part of a team.
Desired: MS or PhD Degree in electrical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering. Course or work experience in advanced control and estimation theory. Experience with six-degree-of-freedom (6DoF) modeling and simulation of aerodynamically controlled missile systems and/or space systems. Experience with collaborative software development and object-oriented software design techniques. Experience using MATLAB and Simulink. Current SECRET clearance.
