Job Description
DESCRIPTION: Provide repair or alteration service on firearms in order to comply with manufacturing warranty, customer satisfaction or specifications. Responsibilities involve modifying firearms, occasional part fabrication, heat treating, welding and soldering of parts, barrel replacements, and adjusting firearms for proper head spacing or chambering. Responsible for repair or replacement of various types of stocks and forends, and the recognition of a variety of gun parts, their stocks, and their interchangeability among various models.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: An understanding and knowledge of firearms, how they operate, and the mechanical function and interaction of firearms working parts. Analytical capabilities to resolve consumer problems when the consumer is unable to describe or pinpoint the actual problem. An understanding of wood, its characteristics and the proper application and use of stains and finishes as well as its repair. An understanding of the difference and proper use of various ammunitions. Concise and detailed work habits to ensure safety and the proper functioning of the repaired product. Ability to interact and support the Quality Assurance Department by close monitoring the implementation of engineering changes and modifications. Determine needs for parts stock and tools; complete order form from Service Department to obtain parts. Perform maintenance and cleaning for work area, equipment and tools. Clean firearms after use at shows/demo’s and clean guns at customer request. May make parts for obsolete firearms. Support other departments such as Sales by repairing the firearms in a timely manner for customers. Answer technical questions for customers. Assist with training of new employees in the Gunsmith department. May travel to shoots/demo’s to perform maintenance, cleaning and/or minor alterations to firearms.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Certification from Gunsmith school or equivalent experience/training in firearms repair.
Graduate of a recognized Gunsmith school, with a minimum of 5 years of firearms repair and rework experience using recognized tools and machines of the trade, or combination experience/training. Ability to travel by plane required. Computer experience required.
Knowledge of firearms and manual dexterity to perform intricate repairs. Ability to work with machines and tools/hand tools. Ability to raise and transport up to 50 pounds (boxes of firearms, equipment, etc.). Ability to bend and reach to obtain parts and products. Use of safety equipment as required.
