The work involves performing semi-skilled tasks associated with the care of patients and related clerical duties as required. The hospital aide performs activities which support the daily functions and operations of an assigned patient care area. This position involves responsibility, tactfulness, and a willingness to perform clinical duties. Work is performed under the direct supervision of an employee of a higher rank. Work is accomplished in accordance with the policies and regulations of local, State, and Federal authorities, as well as, accepted standards of practice. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Collects, reports, and documents data; Takes vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, and collects and delivers specimens to the lab; Performs and reports POCT; Assists with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designees as indicated by the patients plan of care; Provides for patients personal hygiene. Bathes patients (showers, bed bath, shaving,) performs oral care, assists with elimination, and cares for the incontinent patient; Feeds patients; passes and collects trays, and nourishments; sets up trays and adaptive feeding equipment for patients feeds or assists as necessary, supplies water pitchers and glasses; Distributes clean linens; makes beds; distributes, empties and cleans bedpans and urinals; cleans bedside stand and bathrooms; provides general cleaning and housekeeping when necessary; Transfers patients from bed to cart/chair/wheelchair and back utilizing transfer assist devices such as mechanical lifts when necessary; Ambulates, positions, and turns patients and cares for the patient with altered mobility; Assists with the admission, transfer and discharge of the patient; Cares for patient clothing and other personal property; Transports patients; Assists an/or gives cleansing enemas; Performs intermittent catheterization on patients as scheduled; Applies antiembolic stockings and ace wraps; Performs leg measurements as ordered and records; Applies abdominal binder; Applies athrombic pumps/leggings, splints/prosthetic devices; Provides for patient safety related to age and condition. Applies patient restraints, monitors paticri while in restraint, releases restraints at designed intervals. Maintains precautions. Collects. reports and documents data related to patient needs, emergencies and unusual patient and family behavior; Provides direct supervision and observation of patients who are at risk for harming themselves or others; Cleans patient care area after use and prepares for the next patient; TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Assists the healthcare team by preparing patients and chaperoning during examinations/procedures, or assists with other patient treatments Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times; Provides and maintains a clean, safe environment and performs and or assists others to perform aseptic technique, isolation procedures, and infection control measures; Reports adverse situations and accidents; Maintains patient care areas with appropriate supplies; Performs simple treatments and simple dressing changes, as directed; Performs pre-procedure preps; Performs 12 lead ECG; Draws blood samples from patients; Answers phones; Participates in unit/department based quality improvement activities; Ensures equipment is in safe working order, requests repairs as needed; Schedules and/or prioritizes procedures to ensure timely procedure completion; Disassembles instruments for washing; Washes equipment; Wraps and labels instruments for sterilization.
