The Head of Emerging Technology and Architecture provides Enterprise Architecture expertise through standards development and oversight as well as technical architecture. He or she advises, evaluates, and designs the technical blueprint that enables short- and long-term business and IT strategy across all layers of IT solutions.
The Head of Emerging Technology and Architecture works in collaboration with other Architects in IT to establish overarching enterprise architecture to deliver capabilities that leverage and integrate shared and common technologies. He or she develops the technical design of new standards, infrastructure, communication, device, and analytics. He or she also oversees Shire and external resources, as needed, for a given project.
The Head of Emerging Technology and Architecture evolves the portfolio of Shire s enterprise technologies and platforms. He or she works with other Architects, Business Partners, and Service Managers to ensure the state of the system (applications and underlying infrastructure components) is captured and that technical, operational, demographic, and architectural attributes of the systems are accurately maintained in Shire s systems of record.
The Head of Emerging Technology and Architecture strives to incorporate leading edge technology into Shire. He or she surveys and assesses the technology landscape for high-potential opportunities. He or she champions its use to senior IT and business leadership and helps define the architecture in collaboration with the Head of Digital Health and Business.
60% Define Enterprise Architecture:
Create system/application/integration/data blueprint and standards for services supported
Participate in relevant road mapping and business case development activities to provide input on new projects (e.g., for new capabilities, lifecycle refresh and enhancements)
Formulate and define scope and objectives pertaining to the IT systems
Develop and document the system design specifications as part of any new project
Provide current best practice and third-party solution alternatives as part of the functional design document
Ensure application architecture is consistent and compatible with other infrastructure and application components and are compliant with Shire corporate standards
Ensure service metrics relating to performance, scalability or resilience are adhered to
Ensure disaster recovery requirements, both RPO and RTO, are incorporated into system designs and standards where appropriate
Provide design input on new services and solutions (e.g. solution architecture, app security, support model)
Identify, develop and strengthen stakeholder relationships by taking a consultative approach when communicating progress, issues and status, and when sharing best practices
Manage and maintain the system roadmap and provide input and awareness of future upgrade plans and projects
Ensure the state of the system (application, data, integration and underlying infrastructure components) is captured along with business fit, technical, operational, demographic and architectural attributes and that they are accurately maintained in Shire s systems of record
Establish strong working relationship with required vendors to ensure upgrade paths, system dependencies and retirement plans are understood and accommodated for
Stay current on infrastructure and/or business line changes (internal or external), relevant vendor roadmaps, and manage the appropriate remediation/mitigation efforts
Work closely with other architect teams to understand their future technology roadmaps and the associated impact on existing systems or future projects
30% Identify Relevant Emerging Technologies:
Survey technology landscape to identify innovative technology and analytics solutions relevant for Shire
Champion their incorporation to senior business and IT leadership
Collaborate with the Digital Health and Business organization to define the architecture
10% People and Culture Development:
Collaborate with other architects to share ideas, common practices, and thought leadership in order to simplify technology landscape, improve the effectiveness of IT solutions, and ensure consistency and adherence to standards
Collaborate with other architects to identify and establish common technologies that can be leveraged across business domains or at the enterprise level
Drive or participate in innovation initiatives to deliver new capabilities required by the business
Create culture and environment that attracts and retains high-caliber digital talent
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor s degree (required)
7 or more years working experience managing and/or directing technology projects and the management and delivery of technology solutions (required)
3 or more years of IT work experience related to enterprise architecture and related technologies (required)
Strong demonstrated knowledge and experience with emerging digital technologies (required)
Understanding of latest digital trends and direction of digital innovation (required)
Demonstrable and recent experience in architecture design and standards (required)
Pharmaceuticals or Life Sciences experience (preferred)
