Job Description

Codes and abstracts inpatient records according to current ICD coding guidelines and hospital-specific policies for billing as well as statistical purposes. Utilizes facility abstracting system and coding and reimbursement software. Ensures optimum reimbursement following IPPS reimbursement methodologies according to payor arrangements. Functions in several specific areas: coding and abstracting, data retrieval, performance improvement, special studies, and awareness of core measure data collection.bQualificationsbEducation: - Graduate of an AHIMA approved program in Health Information Technology (2 year associate degree) or Health Information Management (4 year bachelors degree) or healthcare related training that equates to being eligible for coding certification.Experience: - Requires a minimum of three years acute care coding and abstracting experience in ICD coding, POA reporting, and DRG assignment.LicensesCertifications: - Required certifications include at least one of the following: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
