GENERAL SUMMARY: Incumbent is responsible for assisting in recruitment efforts, scheduling study visits, and conducting telephone and in-person data collection for 300 randomized participants enrolled in the NIH-funded MIND Trial, in addition to implementing the 2 diet intervention programs designed for weight loss. This position requires someone who is highly organized, detail-orientated, and flexible. Will work closely with the project manager and principal investigator in all aspects of this position. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborate with the Principal Investigators and other support staff in the implementation, both internally and externally, of the MIND Trial Intervention.
*

Recruits participants by distributing study advertisements and facilitating referrals from health care providers and community entities.
*

Screens participants and coordinates study visits and phone calls.
*

Performs data collection by telephone and at in-person interviews on a regular basis in accordance with study protocol.
*

Performs clinic measurements and cognitive testing during participation visits.
*

Implements the 2 diets designed for weight loss. Monitors study compliance through in-person meetings, group classes, phone calls, and emails to support and improve adherence and retention.

Interacts effectively with the Principal Investigator, Project Manager, and all staff of the MIND Trial team.
*

Attends regular team meetings to discuss matters concerning participants, data collection, and problem solving.
*

Complies with ethical standards for research involving human subjects.
*

Performs related duties as assigned



POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

*

Bachelor s degree in a health- or science-related field is required. Dietetics or Nutrition degree preferred.
*

Experience conducting structured interviews or other forms of data collection as a research assistant is preferred.
*

Basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office) are a necessity.
*

Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work with a variety of individuals in a professional manner.
*

This individual must understand and maintain discretion and confidentiality related to all aspects of the studies.
*

The Research Assistant must have excellent organizational skills, be self-directed, be persistent and have an ability to coordinate schedules with study participants.
*

May be required to transport related research equipment; local travel may be required.
