Heavy Equipment Operator-Lead Operator

POSITION SUMMARY:

Operates machines and/or equipment at a recyclery, landfill or transfer station. Also corrdinate activitty of Heavy Equipment Operator aor Stationary Operator.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES-Lead Operator

o Inspects equipment at start of shift and each start up during the shift. Records daily inspection forms.
o Safely and productively operates equipment including forklift, scraper, motor grader, sweeper, baler, excavator, compactor, bulldozer, front end loader and other recyclery, landfill or transfer station equipment.
o Continuously monitors equipment to ensure proper operation and minimum down time. Performs basic trouble shooting.
o At a landfill, operates equipment on the working face to spread and compact solid wastes.
o Studies production schedules and estimates hour requirements for completion of job assignment. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
o Confers with supervisor or manager to coordinate activities of individual departments or shifts.
o Completes Equipment Condition Report and reports any necessary repairs to supervisor and/or Maintenance Shop. Ensures that equipment is cleaned, serviced and stored at the end of each shift.
o Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Required:

-Equivalent of high school diploma or G.E.D. certification.

Preferred:

-Two years of experience as an equipment operator.
-Valid certificate(s) of training for use of equipment, as required.
-Previous experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.

-Machines including, but not limited to, excavator, compactor, bulldozer, forklift, front end loader and/or ADTs/other equipment.
-Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, earplugs, gloves, respirator, hardhat, boots, and safety vest.
-Tools including, but not limited to, broom, shovel, tire gauge, water hoses, screwdriver, wrenches and other hand tools.

-Exposure to extreme weather conditions and loud noises
-Work environment includes machines, tools, trucks, dust, fumes and odors.
-Exposure to residential, industrial and commercial waste.
-Frequently lift / shovel materials weighing up to 10 pounds.
-Constant sitting, driving and reaching.
-Frequent climbing, twisting and balancing.
-Occasional standing, walking, bending, squatting, pushing and pulling up to 20 pounds.
