JOB DESCRIPTIONIT DBA Advisor (458483)
Engagement Type:Contract,Contract to Perm
To develop, implement and maintain the Enterprise database system in a combination UNIX/NT environment; and to develop policies, standards and procedures related to the database environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops, implements and maintains the database system ensuring that the database environment is stable and capable of meeting ongoing business needs including logical and physical database design and implementation; structure testing of database designs, applications, and technology platform; security administration, backup and recovery planning; capacity planning; performance and tuning; research and evaluation of new tools and techniques.
Develops, revises, and implements policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines to effectively administer the database environment.
Plans and conducts structured testing of database designs to confirm functionality and performance.
Develops and implements plans to oversee the database administration function, and ensures smooth transition to new technology.
Assists with data and database administration including hardware and software evaluation and installation.
Participates in task force to develop and implement a database system.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supports the organization's quality program(s).
Education & Licensing
Associate degree in computer-related study from an accredited college or university plus two (10) years computer-related experiencerequired. Bachelor's degree in computer related study from an accredited college or university preferred.
One (10) year Enterprise (Oracle, Progress, or SQL) development required.
Skills & Knowledge
Progress/OpenEdge Database Administration version 11.X in (24x7) production environment
Experience with implementing and managing OE Replication is a large database environment
SAN experience with OpenEdge databases (AIX Clustering experience and management a plus)
Experience with database creation, appservers, dataserver, Sonic MQ and Webspeed.
Experience migrating Type 1 to Type 2 storage areas
Experience managing and responding to alerts
Experience managing database and Unix environment space
Excellent oral and written communication, including presentation skills
PC literate, including Microsoft Office products
Analytical and interpretive skills
Strong organizational skills
Good interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies
