JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY HOW TO APPLY: Click http://careers.dc.gov/ts2__JobDetails jobId=a0K1600000iBdW9EAK performs local area network configuration management and capacity planning; establish network naming conventions; creates appropriate applications files, tables, directories; and builds network configuration databases.
Assists in coordinating with the District's Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) in developing upgrade plans for MPD LAN requirements, acquisition, connections, equipment installations, and maintenance, operations and support issues; and ensures efficient maintenance, support, and troubleshooting.
Ensures the daily smooth Network administration for a user base of over 4000 employees at 36 locations and numerous external law-enforcement agencies. Ensures that all operational needs are met within a framework of 7 days-a-week, 24 hours a day to support all network operations. Controls the development, implementation and publication of Network Operations standards and policies and ensures that those standards and policies are followed. Prepares activity and progress reports regarding all network systems and operations.
Produces and distributes appropriate user guides to District agencies for network utilization ; and provides technical support for the LAN/WAN environment and assists with end-user problems.
Assists with implementation and daily operations of major computer hardware, software, and networks; and conducts maintenance and support of agency network and network applications.
Analyzes business and technical requirements for network infrastructure and manages key projects related to the company's next generation data center.
Designs, documents and builds infrastructure components related to Active Directory, storage solutions, communications networks , and monitoring environments; manages and maintains the Active Directory infrastructure and builds components to ensure secure and stable environment.
Designs , configures and implements Virtual Machine architectures to support Virtual servers, desktops and pre-production SQL environments; establishes documents and maintains builds and turns-over standard operating procedures; mentors engineers and cross-trains peers on best practices and how to efficiently maintain the systems.
Provide network administration services to include the creation and maintenance of WAN and LAN Maps and Architectures.
Performs on-going optimization of the systems to ensure adequate capacity, availability and scalability; designs solutions and alternative that meet documented requirements and delivery dates.
Presents solutions and makes recommendations to departmental leadership and researches and evaluates emerging technology for future applications.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Detailed and professional knowledge of Windows servers, IIS, Windows client work stations, SANS (Systems Administrator, Audit, Network, Security), RAID, SANS (Storage Area Networks), MS.NET, Red Hat, Linux, HP-UX, LDAP, Forefront Identity Manager (FIM), Apache, JBoss, and SQ.
Expert Level of proficiency in computer server design/architecture, hardware and Operating System (OS) protocols, OS management tools, network topology concepts, fault management, OS configuration management and troubleshooting servers.
Extensive knowledge of Continuity of Operations Planning for networks and systems. Expert knowledge of Network Firewall Management policies and procedures including security essentials, virus intrusion detection, firewall changes, incident handling, firewall and perimeter protection and operation system security.
Ability to analyze, evaluate and recommend enhancements to the acquisition of IT products and services including Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products and Government-Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) products.
Experience working with physical and virtual machines (VMware a must) including Dell, Cisco, and other vendors; Client or clientless VPN technologies (Cisco, Sonicwall, etc); Cisco switches, being able to support and manage VLANs; Cisco Routers, being able to support and manage routes, access control lists, traffic inspection, network growth and optimization; Cisco Firewalls, being able to support and manage access control lists, traffic inspection, VPN, etc.; Proxy solutions to filter internet/intranet IP traffic.
Applicable knowledge of researching requirements, designing solutions, acquiring, implementing, and providing support for the full living life cycle of Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008, and 2012 versions
Experience working with a Domain Naming System (DNS) server (creating cnames, domains, etc.); Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol server (creating IP address pools, reserving addresses, etc.); server file sharing and permissions; Creating network diagrams (sites, flow, schematics, etc.); System forensics (investigating security issues, summary, cause, and conclusions, etc.)
Applied knowledge of a data center environment(s); system security/cyber security (antivirus, intrusion prevention, traffic monitoring, traffic inspection, incident response, etc.); DR procedures - backups and restores
Knowledge of the operations of large scale data centers and technical project management.
A criminal background including criminal history and credit check are required for positions within the Metropolitan Police Department. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
CompTIA Network + (Plus), CompTIA Security + (Plus), Cisco CCNA.
Cisco CCNP, Microsoft, MCSA, Microsoft MCSE, ITIL v3 Foundation desired.
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency required. Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in IT Information Systems, Engineering, or 8+ years of experience in combination of academic, professional, and certifications.
A minimum of 8+ years in the IT Information Technology Systems, Engineering, and/or Networking (Routing and Switching) field.
Work environment is principally performed in an office setting. Environment involves exposure to high noise levels, moving parts and high voltage electricity. The Metropolitan Police Department is a 24-hour, 7 days a week operation. Your position may be considered an essential position, and you may be subject to rotating shifts, to include weekends and holidays.
