Position Summary:

The Energy Technologies Area (ETA) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory invites applications for a distinguished postdoctoral fellowship opportunity. The ITRI-Rosenfeld Postdoctoral Fellowship will allow an outstanding recent Ph.D. recipient to engage in innovative research leading to new energy efficiency technologies or policies and reduction of adverse energy-related environmental impacts. For this year, the committee is strongly encouraging applicants interested in water-energy technologies research.

What You Will Do:


Design and implement research that aligns with one of the research topics in the U.S./China Clean Energy Research Center for Water-Energy Technologies.

Communicate results in presentations and/or publications.

What Is Required:


Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. degree requirements within three years of the fellowship start date (Summer-Fall 2017).

Applicants should be able to demonstrate an established publication record.

Applications for the Summer/Fall 2017 term are due by November 1, 2016.

Research proposal (3-pg max.): Applicants are required to submit a research proposal in collaboration with a potential research mentor in the CERC-WET program.

Statement of support from a potential ETA research mentor.

Summary of Ph.D. thesis.

Three letters of reference.

Transcripts from Ph.D.-granting institution.

Selection Criteria

The fellowship aims to foster the visionary thinking exemplified by Dr. Rosenfeld and ITRI, by supporting exceptional postdoctoral researchers who demonstrate leadership and strong research capabilities aimed at improving clean energy technologies and reducing adverse energy-related environmental impacts.

The technical quality of the research proposal:


Quality of proposed science.

Potential for high-impact R&D in the water-energy technologies area.


The extent to which the proposal champions scientific solutions for societys most urgent environmental problems.

This is a 2 year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years paid postdoctoral experience.

Salary will be predetermined based on student/postdoctoral step rates.

This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.

This position requires completion of a background check.
