Description:
BMPC is seeking an experienced Industrial Hygienist to
provide engineering support in a world-class research,
development, and engineering laboratory. Integrate with
an experienced team of safety and health professionals
to deliver services to a dynamic population of
researchers, scientists, engineers, crafts,
construction, and remediation personnel. Key duties
under limited direction include:
Design and direct compliance with Industrial Hygiene
programs related to hazard communication, asbestos,
lead, nanomaterials, beryllium, chemical hygiene,
hearing conservation, ergonomics, laser safety and
others in both General Industry and Construction.
Provide evaluations and assessments to determine
compliance with OSHA, DOE, consensus and other governing
standards. Research and develop regulatory
interpretations as applicable to laboratory operating
requirements. Participate in development of standardized
corporate requirements for health and safety. Schedule
and conduct field surveillances for safety and health
hazards. Independently recognize potential safety and
health hazards, assess risk, and recommend immediate,
short and long-term controls and strategies. Coordinate
observations with supervisors, managers and employees.
Provide expert technical assistance in the development
of control strategies for industrial hygiene hazards
during the scoping phase for work tasks and procedural
development.
Independently review statements of work, design
specifications, technical work documents, hazard
analyses, procedures, subcontractor submittals and other
work documents governing daily operations, special work
procedures, new construction, demolition and
remediation. Ensure work packages and designs
incorporate a hierarchy of hazard controls.
Conduct interviews and measurements as needed to
understand and analyze cause of employee cause of
employee occupational injuries and illnesses. Compile
information, validate, draw and provide the technical
basis for conclusions. Coordinate with stakeholders
including medical, supervision, senior management and
regulators.
Analyze safety and industrial hygiene deficiencies,
illness/injury statistics and causal analyses. Determine
causes and corrective actions mishaps, analyze trends,
recognize adverse performance, and recommend and direct
implementation of corrective actions.
Perform expert technical retroactive exposure
assessments and assist in the implementation of
corrective actions.
Provide technical support and training to incident
responders potentially exposed to hazardous materials.
Requirements:
Advanced:
BS degree in technical or science related field from an
accredited college or university and a minimum of four
years of relevant experience; or
MS degree in technical or science related field from an
accredited college or university and a minimum of two
years of relevant experience
Senior:
BS degree in technical or science related field from an
accredited college or university and a minimum of six
years of relevant experience; or
MS degree in technical or science related field from an
accredited college or university and a minimum of four
years of relevant experience
