Job Description

RTI International s Clinical Research Informatics Program is seeking a talented Programmer/Analyst to lead informatics activities (database development, data management, web, and desktop-based applications development) for a range of multi-site clinical research networks. Duties include leading the development of systems for the collection, processing, managing, presenting, and analyzing of clinical or epidemiological data within a web-based architecture. Responsibilities include managing and conducting operational tasks for multi-mode, multi-site studies using Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems and/or other internal or commercial software tools. Candidates with a broad technical skill set, project management experience, ability to work well in a diverse team environment, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are preferred.


* Plan and coordinate the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of systems for a variety of multi-site, multi-protocol, and multi-modal research projects;

* Lead the development and maintenance of data systems using a combination of Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems and/or other internal or commercial software tools;

* Manage a team of software developers and data managers on one or more projects to deliver innovative technical solutions;

* Interface directly with management, clients, subcontractors and project team members to organize responsibilities, adhere to timelines, and meet deliverables;

* Serve on company committees to develop technical solutions and budgets for proposal teams, projects or clients;


Education and Experience:

* Master s degree in Biomedical Informatics, Health Informatics, Computer Science, Mathematics or other related discipline plus at least 8 years related professional experience; or

* Bachelor s degree in Biomedical Informatics, Health Informatics, Computer Science, Mathematics or other related discipline plus at least 10 years related professional experience;

* A combination of performance, education and prior directly related experience may be considered as equivalent to the above requirements provided that the individual possesses the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job requirements satisfactorily.


* Experience in managing teams on complex projects like multi-site studies, data coordinating center projects, and/or FDA-regulated studies;

* Experience with Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems such as Medidata RAVE , InForm, Oracle Clinical RedCap or other EDC;

* Experience with web technologies such as Visual Studio (ASP.NET, C#, VB.NET), SQL Server, SQL Server Integration Services, Web Services, JavaScript or other related web technologies;

* Ability to work effectively and comfortably with multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and IT specialists;

* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

* To qualify, applicants must be lagally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status.


* Working knowledge of clinical and epidemiological research implementation and data collection requirements;

* Experience with the development and configuration of systems using SDLC methodologies;

* Strong problem solving skills and a willingness to be flexible and learn new concepts and technologies on the job;

* Familiarity with biomedical data standards and common data elements
