Under general supervision is responsible for matching, blending, producing and quality controlling of solvent packaging inks made and used at the customer location, providing technical support, ordering materials and managing inventory. Acts as a liaison between the customer and Sun Chemical Corporation. This Inplant Technician will have overall responsibility to implement and manage the following Inplant best practices:Functions/Responsibilities:Matches colors and formulates ink to customer specification with economical use of color base combinations, using Sun Match computerized Color Matching system including full digital color assortment. Improves the correlation from inplant color matching to press. Prepares draw downs and displays for color comparisons. Performs standard quality control tests to insure inks meet or exceed customer specifications. Identifies press returns and manages an effective workoff program of materials to insure low dormancy levels. Utilize Mixmaster for inventory control, workoff, and batch production. Utilizes standardized preparation of inks to press including color measurement data, proofs and viscosity information. Prepares formula, supervises and participates in weighing out necessary ingredients, and mixing of all inks to be produced at inplant operation. Orders inks, coatings, raw materials and other inventories. Maintains inventory levels. Furnishes press side technical support and troubleshooting as required to adjust problems, such as shade, color, body, stripping, bleeding, skinning, and assisting with press related problems. Performs press side troubleshooting. Maintains production and quality control records of all products produced and advises branch as to amount of ink to be billed to inplant operation. Provides monthly activity report to manager on all monthly inplant activities including total number of batches, color matches, and trials. Participates in customer identified operational improvement goals. The Sun Chemical Inplant Technician will not directly manage the other Ink Department personnel but will work closely with existing press room management in this effort. Trains other ink department personnel in all functions. Makes ink when customer staff is unable to maintain schedule. Maintains Inplant in a state of good housekeeping and safe operation.
