Job Description

PURPOSE:

Verso Corporation is currently seeking entry level paper science, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering professionals for a unique opportunity!

Successful candidates will be immediately placed on special assignment for up to two years where they will work on creating and/or replicating process knowledge coursework for operators on the company s paper machines, pulp process equipment, and power house equipment.

Chosen individuals will be given the unique opportunity to work on a high visibility and high impact project designed to build the technical and functional capability of operators, securing Verso s transition into the next generation of pulp and papermaking and ensuring Verso s ability to maintain 1st quartile performance.

Through this assignment, successful candidates will gain exposure to various pulp and paper processes, process flows, equipment, equipment operations, and process control logic, as well as various engineering disciplines and career paths within Verso s Manufacturing Operations.

At the completion of the project, successful candidates in good standing will transition to a process engineering position within the company.

As a process engineer, successful candidates will provide high-quality process support and technical leadership to the mill s operations group resulting in improved product quality, productivity and reduced costs.

Key Accountabilities ( Special Assignment):

Work within Verso s existing Content Production Standards framework to develop knowledge training content for Verso operators

o Analyze a mill s process equipment to choose the best prototype to work from

o Mark up content prototypes to customize to the mill s specific operations equipment

o Create or change equipment graphics and photos including detailed machine graphics and P&ID drawings

o Work with key subject matter experts to validate content

o Work through Verso s replication quality assurance process to complete the course development

Develop content from scratch where prototype courses do not exist for a given process or piece of equipment

o Develop content and graphics

o Work with the appropriate Best Practice Team to validate content

o Work through Verso s prototype quality assurance process to complete the course development

Key Accountabilities ( Post-Assignment):

Evaluate product improvement or cost optimization projects by conducting trials including development of trial plans and authoring trial reports

Improve product quality while implementing cost and variability reduction initiatives

Develop manufacturing specifications for new grades through pilot coater and machine evaluations

Reduce environmental impact

Provide technical support for key departments

Provide problem solving and analytical skills and leadership

Assist with machine shut downs and start up

Work safely

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Describe the knowledge, skills, demonstrated behaviors and experience required for entry into the position.

* * Bachelor s Degree in Chemical Engineering and/or Paper Science is preferred; however a BS in other engineering disciplines will be considered.

* * Experience in process engineering in an industrial setting preferred but not required or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

* Working knowledge of Adobe Flash and Illustrator and/or some previous graphics development experience is desired. The desire and ability to develop technical knowledge and skills in this area is a must.
