The sole intellectual property attorney at the company, reporting directly to the most senior legal officer, and providing business-oriented legal advice and support to the company with respect to all intellectual property matters.

Essential Tasks and % of Time Spent
10% Develop, manage and oversee execution of a comprehensive worldwide intellectual property strategy for Express.
25% Oversee the company's entire intellectual property portfolio and related matters, including trademark agreements, and oversee the review of all designs, creative, packaging, and marketing materials.
30% Review and negotiate contracts involving intellectual property, including co-existence arrangements, technology and software licenses and marketing arrangements.
25% Advise the design, merchant, marketing and IT functions with respect to all intellectual property matters and provide training to these groups.
10% Oversee all intellectual property related litigation.
Essential Requirements
? Education: A J.D. from an accredited law school and a strong academic background.
? Experience: 8-12+ years of experience in intellectual property law, preferably within the retail industry.

Preferred Requirements (skills and abilities)
? International experience is a plus.
? Prior in-house legal experience is preferred, although not required.
? Substantial contract drafting and negotiation experience
? Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate (both orally and in written form) and interact effectively with business leaders at all levels of the organization; must be able to identify critical issues requiring action and recommend and execute action plans.
? Strong team player and ability to collaborate to resolution.
? Must be self-sufficient and willing to do whatever is necessary to get the job done
? A self-starter and someone who is business-oriented.
? Superior intellect, with the ability to combine analytical reasoning, creativity and judgment.
? Quick study, able to handle complex matters, with multiple initiatives going on simultaneously.
? Able to deal effectively with strategic issues as well as tactical operational details.
? Prior people management experience strongly preferred; excellent coaching and mentoring skills
