Job Description

RTI International's Environment, Health, and Economics Division is seeking an intermediate level candidate to provide support for database application development for environmental and public health (food safety/food security) projects. The candidate will work with project teams under the limited direction of experienced task leaders. Duties involve participating in the full software development lifecycle, designing, developing, testing, and documenting scientific, data management, and data analysis/visualization applications addressing environmental and public health issues. This will include implementing databases and database objects, creating and maintain stored procedures and functions within packages, triggers, and libraries, and developing and interacting with web services. Candidates will be expected to analyze implementation options and provide recommendations on technical approaches.

The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline (computer science, mathematics, engineering, or science-related area) and a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in database application development and data management.

Competency in the following skills are essential:

* Experience supporting database application development including developing, deploying, maintaining, and documenting Oracle and/or PostgreSQL databases and stored procedures throughout the software development lifecycle.

* Strong understanding of relational database architecture and concepts and a passion for working with data and data management.

* Ability to write and optimize complex SQL queries.

* Experience designing schemas, creating tables and views and building and modifying stored procedures, functions, triggers, and constraints.

* Experience writing REST and/or SOAP web services

* Experience using source-code control and task-tracking software, such as Git and Jira.

* Excellent quantitative and problem-solving skills, and strong written and oral communication skills.

* Ability to work effectively both as part of a project team and independently is essential.

* Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status.

Desired skills:

* Experience with C#, Java, or Python.

* Familiarity with geospatial technologies.

* A combination of computer science and environmental science/engineering background.
