JOB DESCRIPTIONIntermediate Systems Administrator, Windows: This position will provide technical support and day to day administration for the servers that support The Department of Safety and Security including virtual infrastructure. Responsibilities include installation, upgrades, system patching, configuration and monitoring of Windows servers/applications both physical and virtual, will work closely with vendors and cross-functional departmental teams to provide tier 2 support, fulfill new service requests, resolve incidents and problem cases, develop and maintain a library of standard operating procedures documentation, and participate in 24/7 on-call support rotation.
Install, configure, upgrade and support Windows Server operating systems that support law enforcement applications.
Maintain security patches, firmware updates and updates on servers that support law enforcement applications.
Work collaboratively with The Department of Safety and Security to help support all law enforcement related applications. Respond to problems and apply appropriate operating system fixes and patches as necessary. Examine various server logs and determine if any corrective action is required.
Work with software vendors to coordinate required changes and upgrades to the law enforcement systems.
Install, configure and maintain server firewall and other security software. Identify and provide technical resolution for potential security breaches. Establish and monitor security and apply appropriate fixes.
Leverage System Center Operations Manager and CA Spectrum to monitor and maintain system integrity and assuring maximum availability. This also includes monitoring backups, access rights, and securing enterprise systems in accordance with IT Services standards. Monitor and forecast future capacity needs.
Administration of Active Directory organizational units and group policies for DSS.
Administer server hardware (chassis management, firmware updates.)
Assist virtualization team in perform administration tasks and troubleshooting related to the Virtual Infrastructure.
Plan and Design Server Hardware
Select and size server hardware including configuring processors, memory and I/O Interface Cards appropriate to business requirements.
Plan local and shared storage partitions for operating system, data, logs etc.
System Automation, Research, and Consulting
Participate in research and development projects within organization to assist in overall improvement and optimization of environment.
Interact effectively and courteously with both technical and non-technical users across all levels of organization
Document system design and related processes.
Participation in team meeting and organization projects
Participate in team, department, and IT Services staff meetings.
Participate in on-call 24/7 support for problem resolution
Prioritize projects and meet deadlines consistently.
Other duties as assigned.
