JOB DESCRIPTIONSUMMARY: The Seaboard Foods internship gives college students an opportunity to be a part of a team in a connected foods system. The internship allows students to gain real-world experience, while exploring opportunities within the pork industry. Interns gain knowledge, business management, and leadership skills in an area of the business, while also being exposed to the connected system. Interns have an opportunity to impact the business through a specific project and get a glimpse of a possible long-term career with Seaboard Foods. Interns may have the opportunity to act as campus ambassadors upon returning to college after the internship.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following: (other duties may be assigned)
* Orientation and connected food system overview, with exposure and understanding of core areas of the business, including support departments
* Specific technical training in areas of interest and skills, depending upon needs
* Supervisory, leadership, communication and problem solving training
* Business management and strategies
* Trainees may be asked to work in various areas and locations in production, processing, or support areas, as needed throughout the training period
Business Analyst Intern:
This intern will gain exposure and training in key strategic business projects that relate to protein processing operations, scheduling, sales analysis, supply chain management, and other related departments. The intern may work on projects related to business and data analytics, forecasting, planning, cost accounting, financial analytics, margin management, or related functions. Majors in business, finance, industrial engineering, or accounting are preferred. This opportunity is located at our corporate headquarters in Shawnee Mission, KS.
Environmental Resource Management Intern:
The ERM intern will gain exposure to working in a team environment that has an impact on the environment and ensures that Seaboard Foods is not only minimizing negative impact on the environment, but is actively looking for ways to make a positive impact on the environment. The ERM intern will have the chance to spend time with a variety of team members in the environmental group in order to learn about the technical side of the department, as well as the compliance and regulatory side. The intern will gain exposure and experience in spreading effluent, taking soil samples and conducting soil analysis tests, composting, working with waste and public water treatment systems, performing microbial additions, field mapping, and working with compliance, reporting, and regulatory agencies. Experience or coursework in environment or natural resources is preferred but not required. This opportunity is located in Guymon, OK.
Farm interns have the opportunity to learn about commercial pork production and how a leading pork producer cares for and raises its pigs to be sent to market. Interns will have a direct impact on the animal production operations by being a part of a team and gaining an in-depth understanding of farm units within the system - sow farm, nurseries, and grow-finish farms. Interns may also complete short rotations through the live operations support departments, such as feed milling and transportation. Interns will learn to attend to and care for pigs in all stages of production and development, and will perform hands-on tasks at a variety of levels, including: processing piglets, monitoring barn environment and ventilation, monitoring feed and water supply, record-keeping, treating animals as needed, and more. Interns will also have the opportunity to learn from the management group at the farms, learning management tasks such as scheduling, reporting, and paperwork. Interns may be assigned a project depending on the farm needs. Intern must be fully engaged and understand that he/she will be expected to be an integral part of the production team, working on the daily processes of the farm. Strong leadership skills are a plus. This opportunity could be located in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, or Texas.
Feed Mill Intern:
Feed mill interns will learn and work in each area of the mill (scale house, receiving, control room, dispatch, inventory, clerical, feed accounting, feed ordering, ingredient merchandising, etc.) Feed mill interns will interact and work with a team and will also be given a project to work on throughout the summer. Feed mill interns will be expected to fill in operation roles as needed. Feed science degree or feed mill work experience preferred but not required. This opportunity is located in Holyoke, CO, Iowa Falls, IA, Leoti, KS, Hugoton, KS, Okeene, OK, or Optima, OK.
High Plains Bioenergy Intern:
High Plains Bioenergy (HPB) interns will gain exposure and experience working in a biodiesel manufacturing facility. There are several different departments that are required to ensure the successful creation of high quality biodiesel. While here, you will be able to learn the skills needed to be effective in each of the following areas; shipping/ receiving/hazardous materials, operations, laboratory and the maintenance department. Experience and or knowledge in chemistry and biology is preferred. This opportunity is located at the High Plains Bioenergy plant in Guymon, OK or at the High Plains Bioenergy plant in St. Joseph, MO.
Human Resources Intern:
Intern will acquire knowledge and training in the employment, human resources, safety, recruiting, and training departments. The HR intern will gain knowledge in: I9 documentation, employment practices, application processes, interviewing, benefits, data entry, pre-employment physicals, training, and other duties assigned. Interns will also prepare a presentation or work on a project which will be presented to the management team at the end of the internship. The intern must maintain complete confidentiality regarding all training, acquired personnel files, employee data, and all human resources information. IT interns will have the opportunity to develop their own internship experience by selecting an opportunity centered around Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, Application Development or Testing. Candidates who complete the program will be considered for full-time employment upon graduation. Computer Science and Computer Information Systems degree or experience preferred. Ideal candidates include those who have taken classes and have interest in any of the following subjects: Web Application Development - .NET/Java Script, Database Development and Data Modeling, Data Warehousing and Report/Dashboard Development. The intern in the maintenance department will gain exposure to the support team that ensures all Seaboard Foods equipment and facilities are in working order and running appropriately in order for operations to run efficiently and effectively. The intern will work with a variety of teams to perform preventative maintenance, ensure automatic systems are in working order, troubleshoot issues with equipment, operate heavy machinery, and maintain facilities. Depending upon the intern's skillset, tasks such as: welding, electrical work, installations and repairs. Interns must have a mechanical aptitude. Technical school certificates or four-year technical college majors such as: electrical, refrigeration, auto mechanics, HVAC, welding technology, diesel mechanics, and other related fields are required.
