Business Insurance (BI) provides commercial insurance coverage to the marketplace and is Travelers? largest major division. Within BI, the Select and Middle Market (MM) business areas account for the majority of premium and accounts. BI has launched major strategic initiatives that will transform its operating model in the areas of Policy Administration, Work Management and Underwriting Workstation capabilities, access and user experience.

The Role

As a key part of the strategic initiatives in BI described above, Travelers seeks an Information Engineer that will participate in technical design and develop activities within the Select and MM IT organization. Responsibilities may be in any of the strategic initiatives related to Policy Administration, Work Management or Underwriting Workstation. These initiatives will employ advanced technologies and methodologies in order to deliver critical business functionality incrementally and adhering to architectural principles of reuse and multi-device deployment. Working on an application development teams, this position will engage in design and development activities within the Business Insurance strategic program.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Manages to the tactical and operational plan for assigned information projects of business unit significance
- Assists in the execution of departmental and corporate programs
- Advocates the use of distributed technology and modern software engineering methods to develop and/or redesign the organization's process
- Cost benefit is the key driver for enhancement and/or project prioritization
- Builds and leverages effective alliances across technical and business community
- Initial responsibilities include technical and functional training on a policy administration vendor product, primarily architected using J2EE, PL/SQL and Oracle technologies. Travelers will be assuming sole ownership of the software of this product and will need to become self-sufficient in a years time.
- Will be given hands on J2EE related assignments in order to learn the detailed design and architecture of policy administration product. Resource will be expected to eventually become a subject matter expert on assigned capabilities; documenting the technical intricacies of these capabilities and mentoring others who may be given assignments in these areas.
- Will be given moderate to high level complexity new development or enhancement functionality to design, code and implement as part of a project team; reporting directly to an IT Project Manager and taking technical lead from a Solution?s Architect.
