Summary/Objective The Junior Director is responsible for the daily planning, organizing and follow up of the overall operation of the Housekeeping department for their assigned shift. Assuring that we achieve the highest degree of quality guest care and the effective/efficient work performance of our staff at all times. Assist the Director of Housekeeping in leading the housekeeping team. Provides daily reporting of any and all work performed and assigned at the end of each shift. Attend or conduct pre-shift brief meeting at 8:30AM. Maintain clear and efficient communication and coordination with the Front Office to include turnover of rooms for Group Arrivals, Airline and VIPs. Produce reports and status updates for proper functioning of the department. Assist in scheduling, training, development, coaching and counseling of staff. Refer and follow up on maintenance/equipment issues with Engineering. Manage the daily activities of the Housekeeping department to include pre and post inspection of guest rooms and facilities. Preparation/Review of work assignments for Houseman and Room Attendants. Daily supervision of the housekeeping staff, floor managers and housemen throughout assigned shift. Ensure that we have adequate supplies and inventory to ensure staff has the tools to carry out their daily responsibility. Investigate complaints; follow up on employee related issues and cross department requests. Host see me time when necessary. Escalate to director when appropriate. Supervise the Laundry department and ensure adequate distribution of linen throughout the building daily. Lead/participate in quarterly linen inventory. Assist in performing administrative duties as necessary for Housekeeping as directed by management. Ensures all operational and safety procedures are properly followed. Communicates effectively with staff & other departments. Competencies Communication Proficiency. Second language a plus; Spanish/Chinese Leadership Skills. Ability to work independently and in a group, self-starter. Teamwork Orientation; Understanding of the managerial roles and how each plays its part in the success of the department. Confidentiality a must. Supervisory Responsibility This role supervises the housekeeping team, including hourly and salaried employees. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently on their feet, bending stooping or reaching. The employee is occasionally required to lift or push an undetermined amount of weight. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate with all levels of staff. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands or fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This position requires a full workweek, including but not limited to weekends, holidays and night work. Other Duties Cover floor manager shifts if necessary. Assist with payroll if needed. Attend operational meetings with executive committee in the absence of director, asst. director or as instructed. Communicate with vendors and coordinate work. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Experience working in a union environment. Knowledge of the CBA- local 6. Opera systems experience, time saver and hotel expert preferred. Proficient with computers, working knowledge of Microsoft- skilled in excel.
