DESCRIPTION

Junior Specialist position available at UCSF

A new molecular genetics and neurobiology laboratory in the UCSF Department of Neurological Surgery and the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research is seeking a highly self-motivated and responsible individual for a Junior Specialist position.

A major focus of the laboratory is the study of molecular factors involved in DNA repair processes, maintenance of genomic stability in neural stem and progenitor cells, and the role of these factors in preventing brain cancers.

Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, social science research methods, or creative activities) by the start date. The successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of studies and techniques at the molecular and cellular level. In addition to technical responsibilities, the individual will have the opportunity to co-author publications. Previous experience in laboratory research would be ideal but is not a strict requirement.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
