EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
-------------------------
High School diploma, Language Competency Certificate, and two (2) years experience in health care setting required.

JOB DUTIES
-------------------------
Maintains daily operation Language and Translation Services' functions as described: Introduces self and explains role. Manages spatial configuration (patient-provider-interpreter) to maximize ease and directness of communication. Maintains linguistic register and style of speaker.
Addresses patient's comfort needs in relation to interpreter with regard to age, gender, and other potential areas of discomfort. Selects appropriate mode of interpretation (consecutive, simultaneous, first or third person). Transmits information between patient and provider.
Ensures that listener understands message. Ensures that interpreter understands message to be transmitted. Manages communication flow to preserve accuracy and completeness and build rapport between provider and patient.
Performs accuracy of interpretation self-check and corrects mistakes. Assists provider with interview closure activities. Ensures concerns raised during and after interview are addressed and referred to appropriate resources. Completes appropriate documentation of interpreter's work.
Uses culturally appropriate behavior. Recognizes and addresses instances that require intercultural inquiry to ensure accurate and complete understanding.
Maintains confidentiality. Interprets accurately and completely. Maintains impartiality. Respects patient's privacy. Maintains professional distance and professional integrity.
Facilitates patient, family, and staff interactions.
Provides translation services as neccesary.
Maintains record of interpreting encounters and written translations and completes monthly report.
Perfoms other duties as assigned.
