JOB DUTIES:

Under the general supervision of the Admin Nurse III, the Senior LVN provides nursing support and leadership in the Department of Urology. Major duties include: provide patient care in an outpatient setting, assist with urologic procedures such as cystoscopies and bladder installations, start I.V.s, perform venipuncture, administer medications, manage patient flow, collect data as appropriate and provide back-up for the clinic front desk, as needed. The incumbent spends a significant portion of time contributing to the development and implementation of a teaching plan related to self-care for the patient. Other duties as assigned.



JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Required- Ability to perform patient assessments and take appropriate action. Skill at setting up and maintaining sterile fields.Skill at effectively communicating with patients, physicians, staff and the public. Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities. Ability to work as part of a team and establish cooperative working relationships with administrators, doctors, peers and public. Knowledge and experience in administering intramuscular and oral medication and monitoring I.V. Knowledge and understanding of medical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Knowledge of specific treatment protocols to be utilized. Ability to exhibit flexibility in adjusting to changing demands and requirements of the position.

Preferred-

Knowledge of urologic conditions and their treatments. Ability to assist with cystoscopic examination. Treatment skills including catheterizations and bladder installations. Experience with varied computer hardware and software includingword processing, spreadsheets and database programs and the UCLA Hospital Information System
