This position is located in the Plant Pathology & Microbiology Department but the actual work is performed at the USDA Germplasm Repository (NCGRCD) in Agricultural Operations at UCR. Under the direction of NCGRCD personnel and the Faculty Supervisor, this position will assist in maintaining citrus germplasm resources, including those introduced from Florida by the Citrus Clonal Protection Program. These duties include developing and maintaining citrus plants in the field and in protected structures and keep accurate and detailed records. Successful candidate must be able to tolerate work under hot summer conditions in the field, screenhouse, and greenhouse. Must follow safe laboratory techniques, including wear protective clothing; and a respirator in circumstances that require personal protection.
Demonstrated ability to care for plants in protected structures and field conditions, graft trees and ability to cut budwood from those trees.
Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English and experience using computers and popular software programs such as word, excel, power point and email.
Physically able to move plants and supplies up to 40 lbs.
Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License.
Knowledge of citriculture: varieties, plant care, irrigation, fertilizer
Knowledge of citrus pests and diseases and their control practices
