The Department Manager - Labor Relations will handle various aspects of the labor and employee relations programs within the facility. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Leads and develops staff that maintains compliance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Lead & facilitate change efforts, organization restructuring, & seek out ways to increase Organizational Effectiveness within the facility.
Administer the U. S. Steel safety program to ensure a safe work environment.
Interpret and implement the collective bargaining agreements for U. S. Steel s represented workforce.
Understand and apply the concepts of contract negotiation, grievance handling, progressive discipline, arbitration preparation and local issue settlements.
Conduct effective and confidential workplace investigations.
Work directly with plant and corporate management, union officials, and representatives of outside agencies on labor relations and human resources related issues.
Bachelors Degree in Human Resources (HR), Business or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
5-8 years labor relations experience in a unionized manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with NLRA, EEOC, FMLA, HR laws and regulations including labor law.
Proficiency in MS Office and database management essential.
Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, team-building and influencing skills.
Ability to work independently and manage ambiguity.
MBA, or MA/MS in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations or Industrial/Organizational Psychology
8 plus years of HR Generalist experience with a proven track to deliver results in a complex and fast-paced business environment.

Experience at a Fortune 500 company
