Layoff Referral Deadline:
Maintain cell cultures and concentrate virus
Prepare media, autoclave water, remove biohazardous waste, monitor CO2 levels; change tanks.
Feed and passage cells, freeze cells, maintain cell lines.
Transfect cells with plasmids for virus production.
Filter, prepare, concentrate virus using sterile prep, BSL2 precautions, and ultracentrifugation.
Remove and thaw cryopreserved cells.
Protein and Recombinant DNA Work
Prepare and concentrate plasmids.
Minor modifications to plasmids for production.
Preparation of DNA for viral transfection.
Basic immunohistochemistry techniques.
Lab Maintenance Duties
Clean and autoclave glassware.
Prepare hazardous waste for removal.
Prepare and print tags for documentation.
Communicate orders to the lab manager and stock arriving orders.
Buffer and Solution Preparation
Prepare common laboratory solutions.
Ensure accurate pH and osmolarity.
Knowledge of mammalian cell culture, sterile procedure, and basic biology
Skill in operating a PCR machine and preparing nucleotides the production of recombinant DNA
Knowledge of recombinant DNA technology, plasmid purification, virus construction and concentration
Ability to maintain well-stocked laboratory including ordering supplies
Skill in operating routine laboratory equipment.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with students, staff and faculty.
Ability to manage a wide variety of tasks with rapidly changing priorities.
General knowledge of BSL2 procedures.
Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and to switch focus as needed.
Willingness to work overtime to meet deadlines related to grant and publications.
Working knowledge of Immunohistochemistry techniques.
Ability to maintain an organized work area.
Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with direction on a daily basis.
Ability to use computer software such as Excel, Word.
Ability to learn new laboratory skills as needed.
