SUMMARY: The role of Petroleum Laboratory Shift Supervisor oversees routine and non-routine laboratory testing for a shift of chemical technicians and assists with more advanced technical issues within the laboratory.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

* Assists where necessary identifying and troubleshooting instrumentation problems, SQC, calibrations, and quality assurance practices and protocols.

* Perform routine and non-routine analyses

* To devise and apply the methodology for dealing effectively with those special analytical problems for which no published procedures exist.

* Data review and reporting.

* To render statistical analyses of analytical data.

* To advise the laboratory in the properties of chemical substances, especially in regard to the hazards thereof.

* To evaluate continually the safety of laboratory working conditions

* To perform the functions of a Laboratory Technician when required.

* To carry out the above responsibilities, and all others, which may be assigned, in a manner demonstrating support for and adherence to the Company s Safety Policy and Procedures, Quality Policy and Procedures, Ethics Policy, Environmental Management System, Vision and Strategy, and to exercise good judgment, common sense, and diplomacy in so doing.

* Participates and takes an active role in the BMT meetings and Safety Committee.

* To carry out the above responsibilities, and all others, which may be assigned, in a manner demonstrating support for and adherence to the Company s Safety Policy and Procedures, Quality Policy and Procedures, Ethics Policy, Environmental Management System, Vision and Strategy, and to exercise good judgment, common sense, and diplomacy in so doing.

* Less than 10% of traveling is required.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Shift supervisor



QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

* Minimum Bachelor s Degree in Chemistry preferred

* Minimum five years experience in petroleum testing

* Demonstrate advanced learning skills



LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to properly interpret technical reports related to chemicals and their properties. Ability to interpret scientific formulas.



REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, AND REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver license required.
