* is expected to perform various chemical analyses in a quality control laboratory at the Phillips 66 Borger Refinery located in Borger, Texas\.The starting rate of pay for a Laboratory Technician is $33\.02/hour with the ability to reach top Laboratory Technician pay within 24 months which is currently $37\.33/hour\.*
* Responsibilities may include
*
* :
+ Climbing stairs on storage tanks, bending, kneeling, squatting, and some heavy lifting + Maintaining a safe work environment, sample and handle chemical materials, and performing maintenance on laboratory equipment + Working directly with plant engineers, operations and maintenance personnel and other lab personnel in a team environment + Entering and retrieving computer data + Using fire equipment when necessary along with many other general maintenance activities*

+ Legally authorized to work in the job posting country + High School Diploma or GED equivalent + Must be at least 18 years of age + Technical certification for Laboratory Technician \(or higher\) OR 2 years of directly applicable equivalent experience + Must have a valid driver's license + Willingness to perform/comply with the following:
- To work a 12\-hour rotating shift, which includes some weekends and holidays - To work overtime - To work in enclosed spaces, such as tanks and silos - To work near large, hot, high\-speed machines - To climb up to 250 feet in height - To lift a minimum of 50 pounds - To work with chemicals, including acids, bases and solvents - To wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment \(such as steel\-toe shoes, ear and eye protection\) - To maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly \(some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven\) - To perform firefighting duties - To work outside in harsh weather conditions - To work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and high temperatures - To read technical procedures and materials in English - To learn computer software associated with process operations - To operate standard petroleum laboratory testing instrumentation and test equipment - To follow both Standard Laboratory Procedures \(SLPs\) and American Society for Testing Materials \(ASTM\) procedures - To perform minor instrument maintenance*

* + Associate's Degree in Chemistry/Chemical Technology \(other Science disciplines considered\) + 2 or more years of experience as a Laboratory Technician + 2 or more years of direct experience working in a refinery and/or chemical industry + Knowledge of CFR Engines and willingness to perform minor maintenance + Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills + Strong oral / written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment + Ability to work self\-directed + Strong interpersonal and written communication skills + Accepts ownership, is accountable, and delivers on commitments*

The refinery processes 148 mbpd of light and medium gravity sour crudes plus fractionates 30 mbpd of mixed natural gas liquids\.
