Lactation Consultant (FT)-00058-43401a Primary Location: United States-Texas-Plano Job: Nursing - Professional Schedule: Full-time POSITION SUMMARY: The Lactation Consultant is responsible for understanding and utilizing the nursing process. Provides expert care in lactation management according to the International Lactation Consultant Association and Standards of Practice for International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. Serves as an expert consultant to maternal- child staff, physicians and other healthcare professionals in the management of patients with complex breastfeeding problems. Participates in program management to support and encourage successful breastfeeding through the first year of life. Participates in program development activities to facilitate successful exclusive breastfeeding for inpatient motherinfant dyad. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provide care in an evidenced-based environment. * Practice autonomously, consistent with practice standards and research based policyprocedures. * Exercise independent judgment within the context of interdisciplinary patient care. * Provide caretreatmentservices within the theoretical framework of modeling and role-modeling. * Delegate tasks appropriate to meet the needs of the individual patient. * Plan, implement, revise and delegate nursing care with patient safety as the primary goal. * Perform necessary technical skills as delineated through education, expertise, and unit requirements. * Incorporate teaching into all aspects of nursing practice. * Document pertinent data in a concise manner. * Participate in development and evaluation of professional practice by participating on unit andor hospital committees, special projects and attendance at staff meetings and town halls. * Actively participate in unit andor hospital performance improvement activities. * Attendance and being on time, ready to work your scheduled hours is an essential job function. POSITION REQUIREMENTSQUALIFICATIONS Education: Graduate of a School of Nursing, BSNMSN preferred. Licensurecertificationregistration: Current license with the Board of Nurse Examiners of the State of Texas or a temporary permit. IBCLC or Certified Breastfeeding Educator. BLS, NRP. Experience: Specialty units may require specific experience. Special Skills amp; Qualifications: Ability to listen, interact and communicate verbally and in writing. Specialty areas including: O.R., C.C.U., Cardiac I.C.U. stepdown, RenalNeuro I.C.U. stepdown, Cath Lab, Med-SurgOrtho, Med- SurgOncology, Labor and Delivery, E.D., P.A.C.U., N.I.C.U., Nursery, Dialysis, Pedi-A.C.U., Radiology, Cardiology and Endoscopy require completion of Hospital-based internship program or specialty course, or minimum of 1 year documented recent hospital experience in area of specialty.
