Discusses the following with PM and Client (as directed by the PM) and assists in the preparation of proposal documents:
Project scope • Budget • Design and construction schedule • Phasing • Construction cost • Level of design and detail to meet budget and schedule • Client standards/expectations, including details and specifications • Understanding of existing conditions • Site location and field investigations • Project reviews • Type of specifications • Construction-phase services • Record drawings
Assists in training the project team and other less experienced discipline personnel.
Directs the interaction with project team to coordinate project specifics.
Interacting with clients and vendors to develop project details.
Develops a project execution plan for the Electrical Discipline to achieve project scope, schedule and budget.
Confirms approved scope, schedule and budget for designs with the PM. Follows company standards for project and drawing coordination, documenting decisions made during the course of the project.
Establishes provisions for and preparing a design control sheet for the following information:
Future expansion • Anticipated hours of operation • Occupancy profiles • Power diversity • Power capacity • Backup power or equipment requirements • Equipment selection • Lighting requirements and controls • Utility services required • Client’s special requirements • Metering needs • Site utility information • Code and insurance requirements • Known areas of potential interference • Special systems requirements • System control • specific site requirements • Applicable utility companies • hazardous classification requirements
Obtains owner's standard details and specifications and design standards from PM. Shares with the project team and incorporates into final design.
Manages request for site utility information, design conditions, special needs data and other outside consultants and submits to PM.
Develops construction cost comparison and complies with level of estimate and items to be included per client, PM specifications or contract specifications.
Monitors Electrical Discipline project budget and progress. Notifies PM immediately if design budget or schedule cannot be met, or additional scope items have been identified.
Manages project documents per company and electrical discipline standards.
Coordinates or performs field investigations following company guidelines.
Develops preliminary conceptual design consistent with project criteria as directed by the PM for electrical discipline specific items: Electrical distribution equipment and controls • Lighting and controls • Special systems • Fire alarm and security systems.
Efficiently utilizes design software whenever possible, provide detailed design or supervise the design of the following items (use company checklists as required):
High Voltage – power distribution, substations, transmission
Medium Voltage – distribution, switchgears, switch boards, transmission
Power Distribution – arc flash, short circuit, overcurrent coordination, load calculations, distribution panel boards, motor control centers, branch circuit panel board distribution, branch circuit design, conductor applications, raceway applications, grounding
Motor Control – application, equipment selection, schematic design, VFD PLC,
Lighting – calculations/design, control
Systems – data/communication/LAN system design, fire alarm design, security system design, CCTV system design, computer room design, lightning protection design
