Job Description
Alere San Diego is currently seeking a Lean Engineer to support our continuous improvements and lean implementation. The Lean Engineer will implement and assist in the transition of Alere, San Diego through value stream mapping, strategy deployment, kaizen activities, service process excellence, and other tools to ensure our business operates toward a lean enterprise.
Goal, Objectives, and Main Responsibilities
Summary of Duties:
- Use value stream and process mapping to identify areas of improvement Facilitate Kaizen Activities
- Champion the 5 S Program
- Facilitate, train and follow strategy deployment activity
Within 3 months:
- Complete detailed in-house TPS (Toyota Production System) style training
- Demonstrate understanding of theories and application
Within 6 months:
- Successfully schedule and complete Kaizen activities
- Track and evaluate pre-Kaizen versus post Kaizen departmental state
- Implement policy deployment
Within 1 year:
- Conduct Kaizen activities in 5 departments within 6 months
- Demonstrate sustainment of 5S.
- Lead and facilitate Kaizen training and incorporate kanban systems.

Desired Skill Set
- 3 - 5 years experience in a Lean Manufacturing Engineering or Industrial Engineering role.
- BS degree in an engineering discipline required, Industrial Engineering preferred
- Demonstrated Lean Manufacturing experience such as: Kaizen, 5s, Visual Factory, Standardized Work, Gemba, kanban
- Experience with TPS (Toyota Production Services) strongly preferred.
- Must have the ability to work well with others and be able to persuade associates on the benefits of these lean initiatives.
- Analytical problem solving: Able to identify problems; apply structured and disciplined methodology to identify root cause using data
