Job Description

Bowhead is looking for a qualified Linux Systems Administrator to support deployed and new installations. This position is located at the NEC at Fort Eustis, but may work other areas at Fort Eustis. Linux Systems Administrator duties include:

-Troubleshooting of standard daemons and tools (NFS, NTP, BIND, APACHE, SYSLOG, logrotate, chkconfig, init scripts, curl, general networking, etc.), and perform installation of firmware and software for systems.

-Performing all aspects of the integration and test of the system including:
quality assurance, set-up/debug system interfaces, set-up/debugging network interface architecture, loading the operating system, and loading applications.

-Ensuring systems are kept in required configuration profile, including:
patch maintenance, changes as required by evolvement of production environments, updating software and software configurations.

-Assuming other duties/projects as they arise and be responsive to the needs of the department.

-Working with other team members on various levels of operating systems, applications and related support in the Linux and Windows environment.

-Responsible for effective installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure.

-Participating in testing and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.

This position will require standing, climbing, bending, and squatting for long periods of time and will require lifting 50 or more pounds.
Required Skills

-Security+ certification required.

-Linux+or Server+ certification or IATII Red Hat RHCSA and RHCVA certification.

-At least 4+ years of experience in a heterogeneous IT environment.

-5+ years Linux administration experience - Red Hat preferred.

-Experience with system-of-system integration/debugging.

-Ability to see architectural implications driven by component changes.

-Expert understanding of UNIX conventions and usage.

-Working knowledge of ports and protocols required to support required Linux services and applications.

-Strong problem solving skills.

-Flexibility to work in a fast paced, high-pressure, start-up environment interacting with cross functional teams.

-Skill in performing routine operations tasks and their automation. Routine tasks include continual system monitoring, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.

-Excellent communication skills--able to interpret and discuss information with both tech and non-tech decision makers.

-Ability to work both independently and in a team setting to ensure that system and network hardware, operating systems, applications, and related procedures result in a reliable and secure service.

-Tech savvy self-starter that will be able to work with little guidance.

Desired Skills
-Experience with the Army's DCGS-A, especially DCGS-A Standard Cloud (DSC).

-System installation using Puppet.

-Cloud computing (Hadoop).

-Windows Server administration experience.

-Experience with system monitoring tools such as Nagios.

-Experience configuring network switches, routers and firewalls.

-Familiarity with PKI keys.

-Ability to understand complex systems with many components.

SECURITY CLEARANCE:
Must be able to maintain a clearance at the SECRET level. Candidate must be eligible for Top Secret/SCI clearance. Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Engineering or Computer Science and 5-8 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Candidates must pass a Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening, and must follow all Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program Requirements.
All post-secondary education listed on a Candidate's application and resume must be verifiable, including but not limited to dates of attendance and degree/diploma awarded. Post-secondary education includes any courses taken through an accredited college or university in pursuit of a degree.
