Title: Long Term Disability Claims Case Manager I, Commercial MarketsLocation: US-MO-Kansas CityOther Locations:Advance your career at Liberty Mutual - A Fortune 100 Company!Commercial Markets is searching for a Long Term Disability Claims Case Manager I to join the Group Benefits team. The Case Manager is responsible for conducting the review and investigation, liability determination, and management of more complex disability claims as well as applying the appropriate contractual provisions, legal guidelines, case management resources, and claim procedures, concepts, principles, and protocols to risk manage claims. This position uses the disability claim system to manage and pay claims while meeting all service, timeframe, and productions standards and regularly exercises independent judgment in interpreting information.Responsibilities:* Communicates with claimants, employers, and various medical professionals to gather information regarding the application for, payment of, and ongoing management of STDand/orLTD benefits* Conducts investigations to determine whether or not to accept liability and to what degree; makes recommendations to approve or deny benefits accordingly* Responds to various written and telephone inquiries including eligibility, approval/denial determinations, status and continuation or closure of benefits* Calculates the liability for each claim applying all appropriate offsets such as social security, workers compensation and third parties* Continually assesses claim details to determine if claims are going to exceed case management authority guidelines* Evaluates and refers appropriate claims to risk management resources such as Vocational Rehabilitation, Managed Care, Fraud, Social Security, and Subrogation* Identifies, calculates, communicates, and follow-up on overpayments* Manages claims within multiple funding arrangements* Conducts supplemental investigation on LTD claims and makes determinations based on contractual change in definition of disability* Updates and accurately documents system and claim files on actions taken; establishes future action plan and case direction* Maintains the established customer service, production, and quality standards* May be assigned to provide guidance and assistance to othersQualifications:* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 2 years of disability claims experience* Demonstrated decision-making, communication, organizational, problem solving, negotiation and computer skills required* Excellent writing, customer service, and interpersonal skills necessary* Extensive knowledge of disability claim management, preferably either in short-term or long-term disability insurance, and medical terminology required Benefits:We recognize that talented people are attracted to companies that provide competitive pay, comprehensive benefits packages and outstanding advancement opportunities
