MANAGER, OPERATIONS

Manages the daily production activities for Morgan Energy Center. Develops operating parameters for CES, TMG and other Calpine groups to use in generating production, outage schedules and gas usage projections. Assists General Manager in developing and implementing annual operating budget. Ensures compliance to monthly and annual budget goals and performance objectives. Assist in the preparation of weekly, monthly and annual reports. Directly interfaces with representatives of regulatory agencies, CES, TMG, Calpine Fuels, BPAC, TVA and other customers. Responsible for insuring the plant maintains compliance with all permit conditions, environmental health and safety programs, local laws, ordinances and standards. Participates in recruitment and selection process for operations personnel. Develops and implements an operator training program. Responsible for maintaining operator qualifications. Assists in implementing and maintaining high standards for safety and environmental performance. Manages water treatment programs. Responsible for the timely sampling of plant water discharges in accordance with permit requirements. Responsible for updating and implementing standard operating procedures (SOP) and NERC procedures and compliance. Shares "call-in" duties with other plant personnel and is available to stand in for the General Manager in his absence. Coordinates and purchases from vendors materials needed to insure on-going operational support and specific items needed for unique applications. Assists in engineering and implementing plant upgrades and modifications. Must possess strong communication skills, both oral and written. Responsible for assuring MEC operates in the most effective, efficient, and beneficial model for Calpine. Performs other duties and administrative tasks as assigned by the General Manager.Physical Requirements: Must be able to frequently climb ladders; enter confined spaces; climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways at elevations of 75 feet or more; crawl to and through confined areas; correctly wear and work using self-contained breathing apparatus; lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions and 75 pounds from the floor to the waist. Qualifications: High school graduate, trade school, military service or technical training schools. Additional professional training and/or boiler operator's licenses preferred. Minimum of five years' of operations experience in power generating plant. Additional experience with combine cycle operations, machinery repair and supervision of personnel is highly desired. Strong mechanical aptitude, basic understanding of mathematics, physics and mechanics and demonstrated supervisory skills. Must be able to respond calmly and think clearly in emergency situations. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Alabama driver's license with an acceptable driving record. When required for operation, maintenance or safety emergency reasons, must be able to quickly access all areas of the plant including confined spaces, high elevations and hot areas. Must be able to work in and around areas with higher-than-normal fugitive dust emissions. Must be able to visually read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts and variations in color.
