GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Medical Assistant I will perform all functions necessary for the complete care and efficient management of patients which include adults, adolescence and pediatrics, through the ambulatory facility, including teaching and assisting patients with needs or problems relevant to their visit the physician and assisting physicians and other licensed clinical staff with procedures, treatments and/or instructions to the patients.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



1. Responsibilities to the Patients.

a. Accurately performs all functions necessary in the ambulatory practice.

b. Triages patient telephone calls and accurately relays information to appropriate physician and calls in prescription refills (under the supervision of the physician).

c. Will accurately provide medical information or instruction to the patient, as directed by the physician.

d. Accurately records all patient data and maintains all necessary records or files pertaining to the patient.

e. Informs patients of any existing procedures or appointment delays and provides approximate waiting time.

f. Assist all patients in a way, which gives the overall perception of Allergy as a premier healthcare provider by being courteous, efficient, helpful and professional.

g. Treats all patients with dignity, compassion and respect.

2. Responsibilities to Physicians

a. Appropriately prepares patient for examinations or procedures.

b. Assists physician during examinations, procedures and care of patient.

c. Assists physicians in the acquisition and proper use of all equipment relating to the care of the patient.

d. Obtains pertinent and accurate information from the patient and communicates this information in a professional manner to the physician

e. Accurately communicates the physicians instructions to the patient.

f. Follows BWH protocol and physician direction when calling prescriptions to pharmacies, as well as with all other practice procedures.

g. Maintains a professional relationship with the physician.

h. Keeps physician up to date on patient volume and waiting status during appointment sessions.

3. Equipment and Supplies

a. Keeps all patient care and procedure equipment clean, autoclaved (according to the BWH Policy) and in good working order.

b. Keeps inventory of supplies and equipment and notifies supervisor when supplies are needed.

c. Properly stocks patient care area and makes cost effective used of supplies and equipment.

d. Keeps all patient care areas neat and clean.

e. Accurately utilizes all equipment and supplies.

4. Teamwork

a. Promotes collaborative work relationships and influences others to work collaboratively.

b. Bases decisions and actions on understanding the perspective of others.

c. Is a role model for others in service standards.

d. Interacts professionally with fellow employees and ancillary departments.

e. Is supportive of fellow employees and uses initiative in helping others.

f. Is an effective TEAM PLAYER!

5. Responsibilities to the Supervisory Staff

a. Follows instructions of and assists supervisory staff as required.

b. Maintains a good communication with and reports problems to supervisor.

c. Performs all duties and tasks as requested by the supervisor, to ensure the efficient overall performance of the facility.

d. Attends all required staff meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:



a. Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program and have at least two years of clinical work experience, as well as phone triage experience.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

b. Must possess excellent learning skills.

c. Must maintain annual competencies.

d. Must attend mandatory annual competencies

Must understand the overall goals and system practice, communicate effectively with a socially diverse group of patients visiting their physicians. Must communicate effectively and able to work in a fast pace, demanding environment and respect the strict confidentiality of medical records and information.
