JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Medical Assistant II is responsible for supporting the practice with overall responsibility for maintaining efficiency of patient flow. The Medical Assistant II will be responsible for greeting all patients in an appropriate manner, take vital signs, in-putting medical information into patient EPIC record and assisting with routine and complex office procedures. The Medical Assistant II will also be responsible for high level disinfection of equipment, maintaining exam rooms, setting up and stocking, as appropriate and ordering and tracking supplies for the practice.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Greets patients in a professional manner and escorts them into patient exam rooms always mindful of patient privacy, comfort, and confidentiality.
2.Takes and documents into EPIC the patient vital signs, collects specimens as appropriate, and performs point of care testing as ordered.
3.Inputs into EPIC the patients past Medical history/Surgical history from Patient Data Questionnaire.
4.Assists with varied procedures, such as urodynamic testing, voiding trials, catheter insertion and catheter removal as directed by and under the supervision of the RN, PA, and MD.
5.Answers phones, takes messages, and assists practice receptionist as needed.
6.Escorts patients and labs/supplies to other areas of the hospital, as requested.
7.Cleans and disinfects instruments and equipment, following infection control guidelines.
8.Provides emotional support and guidance for patients undergoing office procedures.
9.Maintains excellent customer service.
10.Maintains supply inventory and orders supplies for all sites as needed.
11.Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.High School Diploma or equivalent.
2.Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Certification Program (or demonstrated knowledge of competencies required to perform essential functions of position).

The individual in this position must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span of the patient. In addition, he/she must possess the ability to assess patient data relative to the specific needs of the patient and must provide care as described in the departments policies and/or procedures.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

1.Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills are required.
2.Strong clinical and judgment skills are essential.
3.Good organizational skills are required to prioritize tasks effectively.
4.Ability to work successfully as a team player.
5.Demonstrated knowledge of varied medical procedures, vital signs, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1.Ability to transport patients and equipment throughout off site locations (10% of time).
2.Ability to assist patients in exam room, may require lifting of patients.
3.Ability to lift and maneuver equipment (up to 50lbs).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

None. May be responsible for assisting with training of new staff and/or mentoring student medical assistants.
