DIRECTOR OF BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS
MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL SEEKS A DYNAMIC, EXPERIENCED, STRATEGIC-THINKING DIRECTOR OF BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS to lead a dedicated and talented team.
Reporting to the Vice President of Real Estate and Facilities, the Director of Buildings and Grounds is primarily responsible for planning, organizing, evaluating and directing programs to maintain the infrastructure/mechanical systems/utilities of the hospital, research, administrative buildings, satellite health centers and off-site licensed facilities and grounds. Responsibilities also encompass the general management and direction of the department including staffing, supervision, training and development, maintenance of supplies and equipment and fiscal control.
The Director of Buildings and Grounds:
Oversees a department of 200 employees (licensed mechanics, tradesmen and clerical personnel), 7 direct reports.
Selects, reviews, and monitors all outside contracting services required by the hospital such as elevator contract, pneumatic tubes system, fire alarm testing, BAS/CAS/work order systems. Ensures compliance with Department of Public Health, Joint Commission and OSHA.
Maintains close cooperation with other hospital departments, and serve on committee meetings i.e. infection control, Safety, EOC, Haz Mat, Emergency preparedness, others as needed.
Develops and implements policies, services and programs as appropriate to maintain standards with regard to hospital needs.
Works with facility departments and Hospital Budget Director in preparation of annual Operating and Capital budgets, monitors budgets throughout the course of the fiscal year and ensure that operating costs remain within established fiscal parameters ($30M operating budget and $5M capital budget).
Ensures all buildings and building systems are maintained to provide a safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Provides technical assistance and make recommendations regarding the development of Hospital facilities, advises on additions or modifications with regard to utilities and all other building systems.
THE QUALIFIED CANDIDATE would have 10 years related professional experience, thorough knowledge of environment of care and infection control procedures, up-to-date knowledge of OSHA, and Joint Commission policies and standards, working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, strong oral and written communication skills, a Bachelors degree (Masters preferred), MEP license (preferred), and ASHRAE membership (preferred).
